    Baki Questions

Hey, just ran into some money, and I thinking about a Baki. Definitely set on getting another meerschaum. I've heard good things about Baki, but I'd like to know a little more about them from people who own them... Do they really use a 4mm tenons, like they say? Do they smoke well? Do they color...

Do you think the color on this pipe is the result of fading oxblood?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-ANTIQUE-CARVED-MEERSCHAUM-EAGLES-TALON-FITTED-CASE-/221864987253 Thinking about making an offer. It's beat up, but I'm thinking a dip in beeswax will restore its beauty. But I don't know if that color is from fading oxblood or just natural patina. Your thoughts?

Let's see your S Yanik pipe

I'd like to see some that's been smoked heavily for a good period of time. How well do they color? Also, is this pre-colored or just the wax he uses? It looks darker than the traditional wax he uses for most of his pipes...

    Remove oxidation from vulcanite stem

I'm getting a calabash tomorrow with a stem that's oxidized a bit. I don't have any advanced tools or sandpaper to remove oxidation. I plan to soak it in the Oxi Clean and then use a Mr Magic Eraser. I might also polish with olive oil. I read various forums and articles that say you should soak...

Is this gourd calabash or mahogany wood?

Does this look like genuine gourd calabash, or is it mahogany wood? I kind of need a quick answer, bidding ending soon! Thanks in advance.

Anyone have an African meerschaum that has gained patina?

I've only seen one that has been fully colored (almost black) on the Internet. I was wondering if anyone here has one that has gained patina over the years. The pre-coloring that is often round around the rim of these pipes can spread and eventually color the entire pipe, so I've been told. Not...

Use This Instead of Whale Oil or Beeswax

As many of you know, whale oil used to be used instead of beeswax to aid the patina on a meerschaum. It's also supposedly superior to whale oil. Whaling is obviously immoral and illegal now. I hear cetyl esters or jojoba oil are basically the same thing as whale oil, so I was thinking about...

    African Meer Question

Hey, I just scored a beautiful African meer on eBay. It's a 1983 Peterson with a pre-colored rim. I was just wondering if African meers benefit from wax like Turkish meers? It's already gained a little bit of color on the top of the shank and looks as if it's coloring down from the rim. If you...

Those who refrain from handling their meers...

I do not handle my pipe when smoking, because coloring is an important factor for me. Those who share similar views, I have a question for you. When or if your meer is fully colored (reached its full coloring potential), can you handle the meer then without affecting the coloring, or will it...

    Meer Updates/Progress/Timeline (pics)

Hey, just thought I'd post a topic with some updates on my IMP pipe. I'd really love and appreciate it if you'd share and update your pipes on this topic as well, if you can find the time. Anyways, I bought my meer just over a month ago on sale. I'll be posting updates every now and again with...

    Meerschaum color question

I don't handle this pipe when I'm smoking and never with dirty or oily hands. It's turning orange, but at the base of the bowl, it's coloring oddly, and it's brown. Those dots aren't dirt by the way. Anyways, has anyone experienced similar coloring? Did it even up for you?

Where can I buy a custom replacement stem?

Hey guys. I was thinking later in the year, I might be looking for a alternative stem for my IMP meerschaum. I really love the pipe, but I'd prefer a larger stem. I was wondering if any of you know who would be able to make me a custom stem. Also, do you think you could walk me through the...

Can I see your meerschaum pipe(s)?

I'd like to your best colored meerschaum pipe(s), how long you've had it, how often you smoke it, the maker and if you have any tips for developing a nice patina. If you don't, no problem.

    What does "gooper" mean?

I was doing a bit of reading on meerschaum coloring, and I someone stated that "goopers" will color meerschaum quickly. What kind of tobacco is a gooper?

Show off your I.M.P meerschaum pipes

Hey, just got my first I.M.P today. I already smoked 3 bowls. I'm really in love with this pipe. I'll post images maybe tomorrow. I'd love to see everyone's I.M.P pipe if you have one. If not, feel free to post images of your favorite meerschaum or whatever. I love seeing ones that have a nice...

Looking to Buy a Meerschaum Pipe

I'm looking to get my second meerschaum pipe. My price range is $100-150. I'm looking at IMP pipes. Do they color well? Anyone have experience with IMP?

Do pre-colored meerschaum pipes continue to color?

Do pre-colored meerschaum pipes continue to color, darken? I bought this one from Pipes and Cigars, and smoked about 10-15 bowls.

No Whiskey Cube in Frog Morton on the Town?

I just opened a tin, and there was no cube. I also opened Frog Morton Cellar, and there was one in there. Is there supposed to be a cube in Town? I couldn't find any information on it.

Price range of briar pipes from 60s-70s

I MIGHT be getting my hands on 6-7 pipes from the 60s or 70s from my grandpa's collection, assuming we can find it. I won't sell them, but I would like to know what they would be worth. Price ranges from no-name makers and price range from known makers. I really have no idea what they'll look...

    Dunhill Early Morning

Hi fellow bowl burners, I've tried Dunhill 965, Nightcap, and Early Morning. None of these gave me an obvious buzz except Early Morning. It's apparently the lightest of the 3, but it hit me hard! I didn't smoke any more of it than the other 2. I was just wondering, why did this happen? Does it...
