    Got my grail

I love a bulldog pipe. they're by far my favorite shape...or so I thought. There was one other style that kept evading me and I had pretty much given up on it. I've been hunting a while for an eagle claw meer for a while now but they always seem to end in a bidding war or go way out of my price...

    Dr. Grabow Distiller

I came across an interesting Dr.Grabow. It has the spade on the top of the stem and the stem is screwed into device stamped distiller. The only stamping on the bowl is 8415. The shank is really short so I was thinking this could have been a mod but at the same time it looks like it could be...

    First shot at a tamper

The last few months I've been obsessed with making pens. Seemed to me like a good introduction to the lathe. I was going though my scrap box today and the figured what the hell I'll try and make a tamper. I glued some scrap pieces together and drilled a hole through the middle to fit my mandrel...

Early Dr. Grabow De Luxe resto

I got Dr. Grabow Propeller logo pipe in an antique store lot. From what I can tell its pre 1940s but no earlier then 1933. It has a patent number stamped on the shank that was issued in 1933. The patent looks to be on the stinger and stem mount. The idea was to make the pipe stronger at the shank...

    1947 Kaywoodie panel apple resto

A rarity I'd imagine. This is a square shank 2 panel apple with a bowl number of 23C and is a Flame Grain model. From my research this pipe was only made in 1947. It still has its intact 4 hole stinger with drinkless stamping. Before and after pictures.

    WDC Milano resto

Here is a WDC Milano I just finished up. I believe this one is a Hesson guard. Its stamped Hess followed by a patent number. It also appears to say Granny Briar. I found the patent year to be 1930 so I assume the pipe was made in the 30s or 40s. I did the normal ream and salt/alcohol treatment...

I may have a problem with PAD...

I damn near cleaned out the antique store. I left a few pipes and stands(I need another humidor stand like a hole in the head) and pipes but this lot followed me home. In the bunch are an early Dr. Garbow(prop logo), LHS SEC, and three interesting Dr. Shotton pipes. I've never seen them before...

Picked up a cool old clay.

Got this clay of the bay and it came in today. Overall in good shape. No idea how old it is but i love the shape and color. From my understanding clays don't color like meerschaum pipes do so I'm kind of curious how it was colored. Once I have it cleaned and see how it feels in the mouth I may...

    Medico Jet Stream Restoration

This thing was kind of a nightmare. It looked like it had been finished two or three times. I scrubbed, sanded, and stripped the best I could before I called it good enough for fear of stripping the stamping on the bottom. Ended up finding the bowl was full of fills. Might end up doing a dark...

    PAD hit me hard.

Got 18 pipes and two 6 pipe stands for a steal. If course they all need restoration work but I'm fine with that. Four of the pipes I gave to a friend so this is whats left. From the left top to bottom. 1. Dr. Grabow viscount 2. Kaywoodie supergrain 3. Kaywoodie 500 4. Kaywoodie filtronic...

    Aging Sutliff?

I was at a local B&M the other day and they had cans of Sutliff buy one get one free. I picked up a can of Blend No 5 and Great outdoors. I was wondering if anyone aged Sutliff before? For the price of the tins I may go back and buy more but I'd hate for them to get funky before I smoke em.

    Kaywoodie Silhouette restoration

This is a early 40s Kaywoodie Silhouette 4 hole stinger pipe. It was real rough when I got it. Its the upper pipe in the picture. The stem looked like it fell in a blender. It had real deep scratches. I was able to sand them out for the most part. Some are still faint but I was to the point of...

Over reamed and out of round

I bought 3 pipes on ebay that were in real good shape except it looks as though the bowls were reamed with a steak knife. Is there a good way to go about fixing this? I was thinking a dremmel with a sanding cylinder but that seems kind of dangerous.

    Whats under the white paint?

I came across a beat up Kaywoodie White briar. I decided to strip it and see what happens. Here are the results. Nice and sanded Stained Finished up

The Biggest repair I've taken on so far(pictures)

A weeks or so back I went to an estate sale and picked up a handful of pipes for next to nothing. I really should have put this one back but I couldn't do it and decided it must be saved. The pipe is a Savinelli Punto Oro. It was cracked in 3 places on the bowl. Two of the cracks went down a...

    Pipe band markings

I recently picked up a bent whitehall pipe. It looks to be a peterson style pipe. While cleaning it up i noticed there were a few stamps in the band. I know whitehalls were made in Italy but I cant seem to find anything that match my marks. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks!

    ebay find came today

A Pedigree products box set. I dont know much about it. I dont think its one of the gbd pipes. There are no markings. The pipe is pretty though and the price was right. I think the stem and cigarette holder are bakalite but not 100%

    Amish Secret

I see commercials for this stuff and it's starting to pop up in stores. I guess it's some sort of wood cleaner and polish. Has anyone tried it on pipes yet?

First shot at cracked bowl repair(picture heavy)

Recently I picked up a lot of pipes on ebay. One of them was a medico (I think. F on stem) bulldog. The bowl was cracked. I pretty much used the reborn pipes method of repair. I used some of the reamed out cake to make the pipe mud and wood epoxy putty to fill the cracks. I didn't do the sour...
