Metro Detroit Folks -Should we try again?

I dont think I could do the 29th. I Have a museum function that day. I Think the 30th is the arrowhead regional pipe smoking compitition. Maybe we could meet up for that. I'm free right now the rest of April.

Check Out This Pipe Repair: Loose Stem

You could warm the tenon up a bit and press it against a flat surface. It will expand the tennon a bit. If you press too had you could split the tenon so be extra careful.

    Metro Detroit July gathering

I won't be able to make it. I'll be in Grayling that weekend for the antique artillery competition. We have to win our title back. Last year we lost by something like three inches.

    Pipes and fountain pens

Snowyowl I've only made two(3rd blew on the lathe) and have some ideas I might try this weekend when I go though my scrap bin. This is the first tamper I made. Second is similar.

    Pipes and fountain pens

@gordebak the whole reason I got my lathe was to play with pipe making.I had no experience at the time with wood turning so I started with pens. they are fairly straightforward and a good way to learn.

    Pipes and fountain pens

I've only made one pipe and it was by hand from a hobby kit. I've turned a few tampers but haven't tried turning a pipe yet. I'm fairly close to the famous Pauls pipe shop. Next time I go up there I plan on buying another kit.

    Pipes and fountain pens

Pen making is a hobby of mine. Something to do while smoking a pipe. I find it very relaxing. My doctor uses fountin pens exclusively so I made one for him. I liked the look and feel so much I made another for myself. A few of the fountain pens I've made.

A Kaywoodie Blowfish? Happy Fathers Day Indeed! (pics)

They did use the bowl shape a few times i belive but the diamond shank is the rarity. I want to say they used 23c for the different shapes.

23c is the shape code on mine. I also mistook the model as mine is actually a flame grain not super grain. The 4 dodget number makes it older then mine so they must have made that shape earlier as well. Heres mine

Nice pipe! I Don't know the number off the top of my head but I have the same pipe in a super grain model. That shape with the diamond stem was only made in 1957.

    Repairing Stem Insignia?

I use acrylic paint. I put a dab over thr logo and let it dry. I then use really fine sand paper (800 or finer) to take off the excess.

A Funny Thing Happened On My Way To The Forum(via the doctor's office)

That was a funny read. My doctor asked me once if I smoked. I said yes to the cigars and pipes. His response...At least its not cigarettes. He's more against drinking.

    First shot at a tamper

@clickclick thanks for the heads up. I've been trying to wear a mask more lately. I may have to invest in a respirator. The dust masks fog up my safety glasses. @pappy, The metal base was originally a bolt. I turned the tamper on a pen mandrel and then epoxied in a 1/4 inch bolt. I rounded it...

    What's Re-purposed for Tampers?

Nipple wrench for a black powder revolver. I've used a musket wrench as well which is similar but a bit larger.

    re-finishing stained meer bowl exterior

Wipe the outside of the bowl with alcohol and then redip in melted beeswax. It'll pull out some hidden color. It may still be splotchy though as every meer is different. You probably wpuld want to stuff something in the bowl to avoid wax in the chamber.
