I always envy a great score like this! Congrats!

If you can only choose one brand, which one would be?

For me, it would be a toss-up between Savinelli and the earlier Danish Stanwells.

    Selling on ebay

I agree wholeheartedly - it's a huge investment in time to learn the trends, markets, and players. The fees add up as well. This is sort of a one-time thing for me however, as I'm not a trader, just trying to liquidate most of my collection. Then I'm only going to watch for the occasional...

    Selling on ebay

I'm still interested in what anyone else is having any luck selling, or not selling as the case may be. I have a half dozen unsmoked ~1980 Armellinis that seem pretty soft, not getting a lot of interest in them. Bjarne is another 1980s pipe not attracting much attention. Vintage 1970s...

Nice addition! Did you recondition it yourself, or did you find it like that?

Stanwell "Bench Made" line... where does it fit in?

Thanks, Michael, that's all helpful. I have several of the Danish Sovereigns, as well, and I can tell you the flaws are so minute (they were left natural with no fills), that they are barely visible even with a jeweler's lupe. I guess that speaks to the critical eye with which Stanwells were...

Stanwell "Bench Made" line... where does it fit in?

There is some pretty good information compiles around the internet regarding Stanwell shapes, lines, and history; but I'm not seeing much information regarding the "Bench Made" line (I have a shpe 13 billiard). I remember glimpsing something that said it was a notch ahead of the "Hand Made" line...

Bah... sorry for the double post.. how did that happen?

How Many Pipes Do You Own?

I think it was 142 at last count, but I've started thinning the herd. All my acquiring was done in the 1970s - 1980s. I started out as a real Caminetto/Ascorti fan, I have 18 of those. Next favorite is Elliot Nachwalter (from his early days), I think there are 11 of those. I like my 4 Upshalls...

Show Off Your James Upshall & Tilshead Pipes

Yes, I've always been partial to Dublins, and I really like my two Upshalls. With the Upshall knowledge that Pete shared a few days ago, the logo on the left of the stem and the "dot" between the J and the U were a very early logo.. but not sure exactly when it stopped being used.

    Show-Off Your Stanwell Pipes Here!

There is a "Bench Made" Billiard in the upper right, three Danish Soverigns in the lower right, and four "Hand Made" in the upper left. Pay no attention to the two Peter Stokkebye interlopers in the lower left....

    Show Off Your Charatans Here!

Here's my Charatan Special Group 4. As I get deeper into the collection to sell some of it away, I fear this is one that I might have some trouble letting go of (along with the Upshalls)! My lone Charatan, as well, though I'm not sure why...? That's a terrific bulldog, Al.

Here's my other Upshall P Dublin that I didn't have pics of before.... I've always liked the slender shank/stem on this one.

    Show Off Your Caminetto's Here!

I have this Caminetto smooth bent Dublin (from the late '70s) and am wondering if anyone has heard of a silver moustache ever being stamped in Caminetto stems? I always thought the so-called "double-comma" moustache was first gold, and later white. I swear this one looks silver to me... maybe...

    Show Off Your Caminetto's Here!

@maxpeters, those are righteous pipes, I particularly like the bulldog! I haven't followed the the new caminetto grading system, so I can't be of any help there (I say new, mine are all from the '70s and there really wasn't a grading system then). I also agree with you regarding the way they...
