Anyone been there lately, the past year or so? Just wondering if it is worth the effort to get there. That is, is looks like a lovely village in beautiful mountains but, more importantly, pipes stuff?
This has been popping up on fb, but not for pipe reasons. Thought it might be of interest here. "148th birthday to Charles Stewart Mott, brilliant industrialist and generous philanthropist."
Anyone else have any issues with the coatings inside of a new Peterson? Got a lovely silver spigot, sweet pipe, and noticed the inside was black, like...black. Not that kind of charred look of many pipes, the kind the are the prep so one doesn't need to break in the pipe so much. I've smoked...
Stumbled upon an antique shop that has an unopened box of 12 Prince Albert tins (also, of course, unopened). Price seems okay, if the tobacco is still good. Seller says they are from the 1930s. Anyone have experience with tobacco tins this old? Any hope of the tobacco being smokeable?
(I think this category is more appropriate than the B&M for this question.) Finally made it to Little Rock last weekend to hang out at the long standing, if obviously named, Pipe and Tobacco Shop. I had heard they have a chatty group of gents on Saturdays; that proved to be the case and, for a...
Received this Julius Vesz from my dad. It was gifted to him years ago. He smoked it for years and then had a doc say, "you are smoking that pipe too much." (He was.) He gave it up. The Vesz sat. But also...he had dropped the pipe and snapped the shank. He is not a big pipe guy and just...
Hi Briar Bros, I've a chance to head to Paris this winter and I'm wondering about pipe makers there. I know about Pipe du Nord, and of course Saint Claude (which is way too far from Paris for a quick trip) but are there other makers, or even great shops, within a couple of hours (by train) from...
For yet another time I decided it was a good idea to attempt pipe smoking while walking in the evening. Seems such a tradition, a delight, the definitive sort of contemplative activity...and yet every time I end up heating up the pipe too much and getting my tongue burnt. Not a tobacco thing...
Been watching a medium fun AMC series on Netflix, Loaded. It's about four loser friends who hit the jackpot with their idiotic digital cat game. One of the characters, Watto, is seen frequently carrying a pipe (but never smoking it). Can't tell what it is. Looks fancy and interesting...
I have a trip to Boston in July and wanted to stop in at Peretti's for some spectacular tobacco. Any recommendations? Let me say, I write as my previous experience with their tobacco has not be that zesty. I picked up a tin of 100 Blend a couple of years ago and found it tasteless. Recently...
Been musing for a while about erica arborea. Doesn't grow everywhere and takes a long time to mature, to get the nice root balls, right? So...how much is left? Has anyone tried, I guess cultivating is the right word, the trees? Make a better briar, nicer briar, something briar? Strikes me...
Bought a forty year old collectible pipe recently. It was sold as "unsmoked." Sure seems like it is so. But pulled the stem out the other day and...not sure. Maybe it was...er...briar dust? Maybe it was a tiny bit of residue from tobacco flakes? Can't smell a thing, no burns, no bite...
Now that I have a couple of (slightly) collectible pipes, one of them forty years old, I am wondering about preservation and such. In particular, I wonder how much does the original box affect value, if at all?

Okay my wiser Brothers of the Pipe, tell me if I landed an extraordinary briar or no. You can see the stamping. If I am reading it right, it is a 1979, group 6. No other numbers because...it's a quaint? I have been unable to find any other...
Recently received this as a gift from a family member who gave up smoking some years back. I noticed it was damaged so I looked up the maker and was pleasantly surprised to learn about JT Cooke and his pipes...only this one is not like his pipes. From the images you can see where the damage...

Was just given a lovely Erik Nording from 1998 with a nice bit of bamboo between the briar shank and the stem. As I was inspecting it, I noticed that one of the nodes (a spot where a bamboo branch would emerge) was missing. I held my...
