***What Are You Smoking, May 2021?***

House blend called Parrish no. 4 from Telford’s in Mill Valley in a rusticated billiard made by Briar Bird. This combo is doing all the right things.

I’m interested to hear the difference between this and the plug version. Anything noteworthy?

    J. Sommer Meerschaum, have questions.

Hey y’all. I just scored a sweet Meer from a local resale shop. The maker is J. Sommer, which I hadn’t heard of before. The pipe itself is in good condition, but the stem has been broken and poorly repaired. The case also seems to be missing a couple original items, which I’m hoping someone here...

Help. Six estate pipes, but I can only keep one. But which?

ssjones. thanks, great info! And I have formulated a new plan with these restorations. Going to fix them all up, smoke them, pick one that I like, then replace it with an equally nice pipe from my own collection. Take one, give one. The ciiiiiiiiircle of liiiife.

Help. Six estate pipes, but I can only keep one. But which?

peteguy, I tried to list all of the markings I was able to find on the pipes, so i don't think so. I will give another round of scrutiny later.

Nomenclature: "cellar" vs "rotation" (vs both)

I'm about to make a new playlist right now. Time to call Boswell!

Help. Six estate pipes, but I can only keep one. But which?

Bulldog and wyfbane, that pipe is definitely cool, and I don't have that shape in my collection. This whole conversation will probably change once all the pipes have been cleaned and smoked. I would rather be home working on a pipe right now than trapped at work. Is 36 too young to retire?

Help. Six estate pipes, but I can only keep one. But which?

I will definitely smoke each one before making any final decisions. Good call trailboss, and huskysibe. ssjones, how can I tell the difference between the drilled and stamped logo?

Help. Six estate pipes, but I can only keep one. But which?

I think it's important to mention here that my friend's father is still alive. He dug these pipes out of storage, and since he knows I like to refurbish old pipes, he brought them to me. I told him that I would clean them all up, which is a polite way of saying that I'm going to have to spend...

Help. Six estate pipes, but I can only keep one. But which?

Thanks for all the input. The more I look at these pipes, the more the Comoy is calling to me. It's in the best shape of the bunch too! I have a lot of work ahead of me with these pipes. They were definitely smoked a LOT. Cake buildup for miles and all the stems are chewed to hell. I will post...

Help. Six estate pipes, but I can only keep one. But which?

Ok, so here's the deal. I agreed to help a friend by restoring his dad's old pipe collection. He said that if I fix up all six, I can have my pick of the litter. But, not being super knowledgeable on pipes and quality pipe brands, I'm going to need some opinions. If you had your pick, which...

    Meerschaum with wonky stem. Help!!!

Just out of curiosity, do any of you chaps have any info on the Genuine Meerschaum Three Star brand? I searched the interwebs and looked through the meerschaum thread posts, but couldn't find anything. I notice in some of your pictures that some of you seem to have meers from this company and...

    Meerschaum with wonky stem. Help!!!

Tried what rcstan said and filed the tenon down a bit. Then for good measure I melted a bit of beeswax on the threads and shank face. Stem is now snug as a bug. About to smoke the inaugural first bowl. Thanks to everyone for advice. Now I can start posting to the forum like a proper new...

    Meerschaum with wonky stem. Help!!!

Thanks everyone. Already shot an email to Norwood's. Will try a couple tips that have been recommended, and if all else fails(including my pride) then I will ship it off. I really want to keep the amber stem though. Hope it works. pics later. Thanks!

    Meerschaum with wonky stem. Help!!!

xrundog, I need to get home and post a picture, because my issue isn't clear in the description. The stem is internally threaded with no tenon sticking out. It screws on to a bone screw that's protruding from the mortise. I'm reluctant to fiddle with the bone screw itself because I don't want to...

    Meerschaum with wonky stem. Help!!!

I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, mostly just soaking up all of the collective pipe knowledge. I have been meaning to make a proper introductory post, but for now I need to step out of the shadows with a repair question. I will go insane if I can't get this figured out. I recently...
