    Hobbit Weed is No More

Just was at Tewksbury in Denver, after 43yrs, they won't be selling Hobbit Weed (or any other hockey se blends) due to the new regulations. It's a shame. Such a great shop and such an iconic blend.

    The Shift Key

I can see why it is annoying. I will pledge to check grammar, spelling, and to proof read. My only wish, and it's just a wish, that we could copy photos directly from our phones to this forum, without having to first post them somewhere else. I think the quality of posts would increase in the...

How long to break in Pipes

A little different take: A pipe changes forever. If it sits in a shop, all lonely and unloved, it is getting older. A pipe you smoke will likely change most dramatically after the first few to couple dozen times. After a while the changes are so slow and subtle that you can't possibly notice...

    Zippo, Pipe,And Wind.

I would say that a zippo with the pipe insert is the best engineered device for getting flame safely into a deep bowl.

    The Life Of The Pipe

While we are at it, it seems to me that wet tobacco will burn cooler than dry tobacco. Wet will burn your mouth worse but the temperature is cooler. Same way a steam sauna feels much hotter at a lower temperature. Therefore smoking on the wet side is less abusive to your pipe than dry. The...

IM Corona Old Boy Father's Day Gift

You, sir, deserve it! Just as a PSA, my IM Corona Laurel is mat black. I got that for the same reasons you got yours. The finish comes off the edges pretty quick. Rugged men like us call that patina! You will be giving it to your kids!

Paging Mr. Death Metal Re: Royal Yacht

I've been trying to figure out what is best in my Morta pipe. You guessed it. RY. Actually everything is good in a Morta in the sense that the Morta is very very nuetral. Almost like music in an anechoic chamber vs a concert hall. The Yacht really shines though! I thought you might like to do...

Do IM Corona Lighters Really Need IM Corona Flints?

Just a guess here, but t I don't suppose there are too many flint factories in the world. The Bics etc are by far the biggest users of flints. For all we know Corona flints = DuPont flints = zippo etc.

    Baked Erinmore

If Erininmore is great baked, I bet that 4th generation 1931 will do very well baked. I may try tomorrow!

    McClelland Dark Star

I have had my best luck cutting it into "cubes". Hard to really call them cubes because the flakes are broken to begin with. In any case I like several hours of drying for it. Then it burns really well, better than most. It looks like smoldering coals in a furnace. Sweet if you go slow.

    any expirience with electric lighters?

Sorry above post has self destructed. I've had cheap ones last a long time and expensive ones die quickly.

    Bicycle Riding If Arthritic?

My 2 cents. Many, many injuries are the results of inactivity not activity. What ever else you do, (bicycling is awesome!), make sure you strength train. Not just go through the motions but train. I.e follow a progression and actually get stronger. I am a masters (53yr old) competitive...

Why is 3 Nuns so expensive?

While not the good old stuff, my first few tins had perfect coins. My last few barely has had any intact coins. Wondering if the quality is suffering?

Why is 3 Nuns so expensive?

I was going to ask this exact question! When i saw it, i couldn't remember when I posted it. In any case, the answers here are as I suspected. Sydney Frank, who invented Grey Goose vodka, was asked what is the difference between premium and ultra premium vodka? His answer was: you can make $10...

    The Size of a Flake

I like the idea that the flake is designed to be a portion, but clearly that is not always the case. I have mostly gotten frustrated with folding but have enjoyed cube cutting. This seems to be a good intermediate step in preserving the characteristics of the flake but makes lighting and drying...

    The Size of a Flake

Maybe Watch City Slices are designed for Boswell pipes? I'll have to try it!

    The Size of a Flake

Generally I like to cube cut my flakes, dry the cubes as needed, and gravity feed with a little packing pressure at the top. As described, this is typically about 75-80% of one flake. I don't mind the bit leftover but I'm wondering if flakes are designed to be a standard? In other words, does...
