Well, :sher: the answer COULD be IF it is a smooth, the grain is VERY often much nicer or more striking (straight) on the older estate pipes. IF rusticated as your reference is about, some prefer a vulcanite stem compared to an acrylic p-lip or f-tail. Could also be a preference for or against...- Nevaditude
