    R.I.P. Louis Zamperini

Lost an incredible hero on July 2nd. Attached is a link to a 35 minute video about his life made in 1998 during the Nagano, Japan olympics--it's how I first leaned about him. I've used the video in my history classes and it's one of the things former students always say they always remember...

The Doghouse Parts 1 And 2

I live overseas so there are lots of ads and commercials that I miss out on. Not sure if and when this series was run on TV, but this is hysterical. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtKQbM9laC8

    Flake Tobacco Question

I'm new to flake tobaccos. Do most of you rub out (or cube cut) as you go, or is it OK to rub out the entire tin and then store in a mason jar? Would rubbing out the entire tin allow for a little more drying time, and do flakes require any more (or less) drying time than ready rubbed?

    Airing Out Tobacco?

I've noticed pipers reviewing tobacco recommending that tobacco be "aired out" in the tin before smoking. Is this common practice? Do you pop the lid off and let it sit in the open air for a few hours or even a day or two? Or does it mean you pop the tin, but the lid back on, and wait a week?

Pipe Tobacco Retailers in Barcelona, Spain

Just wrapped up a week in Barcelona and want to continue the series of pipe retailers around the world. Hope you find this interesting and helpful! Spain is a smoking culture, full stop. Whist one sees smoking warnings on tobacco products and there are smoking bans indoors, that has not...

    Best Alternative To Mason Jars?

After reading a number of threads on this forum regarding the storage of pipe tobacco, it appears the absolute best way to do so is with mason jars. However, mason jars are not available where I live in Asia. What, in your opinion, is the next best alternative to storing pipe tobacco? I smoke...

    Blends Similar To BCA?

I'm finding that I keep reaching for BCA more than any other tobacco. I really enjoy the flavor, room note is good (War Dept doesn't complain) and it requires very few relights despite my crappy packing technique. Are there blends by McClelland, Peterson, MacBaren, etc. that are similar that I...

    Poppin' Aro Tins

Thought I'd enlist the sage advice the fellow members: I have the following five aros but only two mason jars to store them (live overseas and hard to find--had to get them in Thailand). Which two tins would you pop? Since I'm sort of a new piper I'm looking for the best flavor--nicotine hit...

    Pipe Weight?

I was reading another post about online information regarding pipes, and I noticed one stat is weight. Is there a standard weight for a pipe? How many ounces/grams denotes a light pipe vs. a heavy pipe?

Smoking Technique--What Am I Doing Wrong?

I'm somewhat new to the pipe, but I am a former cigarette smoker (quit seven years ago). Therefore, I do not want to inhale--I repeat--I do not want to inhale--I did enough of that in my cigarette smoking days. I really want to enjoy the pipe, the taste of tobacco, and try to limit the health...

Confused About Types of Tobaccos, Mainly Virginias

Hello All, I'm confused about the various types of tobacco, especially Virginias. For example, according tobaccoreviews.com: Gawith's Grousemoor contains Virginia leaf only--OK, that's easy, but.... Gawith's 1792 Flake contains VA and KY with whiskey and tonquin bean flavoring (does this make...

    Smoking Indoors?

Since I've taken up the pipe I've been relegated to smoking outside. However, it's hot, muggy, and the mosquitos are terrible (especially in the evening). I would really prefer to smoke inside until it turns a bit cooler, but I don't want to stink up the house too much and I also have a family...

    Pipe Tobacco Retailers in Bangkok

I currently live overseas in South Asia and just recently took up pipe smoking. About a month ago I spend some time in Bangkok, and while I was there I tried to hunt down the various tobacco retailers to have a look at their supplies. Also, I have only a limited selection of pipe tobacco in my...
