Recommendation for Returning Pipe Smoker who Loves Cigars

The dark plug I have is the aromatic version. You can definitely smell some tonquin/alcohol similar to Revor Plug or to Cob Plub but when you light up it almost disappear and not intruding at all. I would not call at all an aromatic like the heavy lakelands. Don't worry about that. The...

And I forgot the Semois, something also completely unique like anything else.

Recommendation for Returning Pipe Smoker who Loves Cigars

Gawith & Hoggarth: Dark Plug, the strongest. Any Brown twist, probably the most similar to cigar taste. XX Black Twist, slightly milder and unique taste different from anything else. Revor Plug a little bit more sweet and milder than the above. Bosun Plug, definitely the milder with a mix a...

How Do You Store a Lit Bowl

If I am outside and I have to stop and store for a little bit I just leave it go down and put a cork. However, my experience is that when leaving off for more than 10 min when relighting the taste won't be the same, it is always appreciably dull and getting a cigarette undertone, so I really try...

    Happy Fountain Pen Day

Actually Fountain pen makes a much more relaxed writing compared to ballpoints and if you have arthritis they make you write much more comfortable helping avoiding the development of carpal tunnel. I do have many and love to write with them just for the sake of writing with them even is on today...

    DAMN!!! MOLDY G & H DARK PLUG

If after that it looks and smell ok I would not smoke right away but put in a new clean jar and let sit there for at least 6 months. If it will be still fine then I would smoke. I did that with a Kendal plug and it worked. I agree chances are probably 50/50

How To Tell If A Pipe is Clay Or Meer

It is possibly a double walled clay, hotter than meer but not as much a typical single walled. If so the bowl is not connected directly to the shank but the draft hole is in the middle at the bottom of the bowl where it open in the expansion chamber below the bowl

How To Tell If A Pipe is Clay Or Meer

Well, as said if smoking gets very hot is a clay, if it stays cool is a meer but keep in mind that double walled clays are not as hot as the single walled ones, but still hotter than meer. Either way it would be a great smoker as clay and meer are my preferred. I would definitely smoke it. I...

How To Tell If A Pipe is Clay Or Meer

It is a clay pipe. Peterson made on the past clay pipe and never made meer as export of raw meer was banned by Turkey government to protect local carvers which is why the only meer available are from Turkey carvers. Interesting link below about Peterson clay pipes...

Long Term Storage in Tobacco Tin

There are different aluminum tapes. The ticker ones of 3M come out easily (and they do a better seal). Some thinner nop brand names they tend to break down when applying as well as more difficult to come out. But tick one of 3 M works very well

Gawith Hoggarth - A Quick Tobacco Tour

I found few months ago and it is very useful to understand their leaves and sources they get from. It make also easy to understand their blend composition.

Long Term Storage in Tobacco Tin

Aluminum tape can be your answer. All unopened tins I tape with it and they are fresh even many years later when opened. For opened tins I do not want to put in mason jar aluminum tape keep them reasonably fresh for up a couple of years, they dry out a little bit over time which is not...

    Mellowest Unflavored Burley Blends?

One blend which was not mentioned is the Peretti Cuban mixture, not entirely Burley but Burley forward, mild in nic but tasty with a lot of flavor.

How Many Blends are There *Really*

I think in tobacco review there are more than 3000 blends. I would guess that even the most experienced pipers if blind testing would not be able to distinguish more than 300 different ones out of them. And for the more regular guy as I consider myself, when you have defined 30 blends you have...

Ordering pipe tobacco online in Italy

I am from Italy so I know all the story. It has always been so and has nothing to do with EU or protecting tobacco stores. It is about all tobacco product which are under monopoly of the government from production to sale. The tobacconists are actually in some way government employees who are...

Ordering pipe tobacco online in Italy

Nope, totally banned online tobacco sale. In addition the selection is limited there as the market is heavily regulated and even if you walk in a shop there you won't find anything interesting compared to Germany, Switzerland, UK or USA

GH Ultimum compared to GH American Black Cherry and GH Kendal Black Cherry

I do have the GH American Black Cherry and GH Kendal Black Cherry which are two nice quite different cherry aromatics. I am wondering how the GH Ultimum compares to them, is it similar to one of the two or a third different cherry aromatic?. Trying to figure out if it is different enough to...
