Hugh Hefner's Favorite Recipe: Lamb Chops

My wife cans everything we don’t eat fresh from the garden every year. Also, jelly making with anything we can grow enough of. There’s nothing better in my opinion than garden fresh foods. Strawberry rhubarb pie is awesome when the time comes. We eat the home canned foods in the winter months...

    Cobs - Protruding Stem Issue!

Smoke it hot and dirty, it’ll even out pretty quick. On a side note we recently had a prolonged discussion on the merits of having mesh balls. It devolved quickly lol.

Dr. Reamlove, or How I Learned to Not be Afraid of Reaming

I’ve also heard a good ole popsicle stick works well, and can’t damage the chamber. Never tried it, but it sounds feasible.

Fred Hanna on Radio Show of January 25, 2022

Another great one. I really enjoy experts’ deep diving in long form discussions on podcasts. Like hardcore history, but pipes. I spend long hours on the road for work, so I have time to pay attention. I may give that new flake treatment a try some day, maybe it could work in a conventional oven?

Dr. Reamlove, or How I Learned to Not be Afraid of Reaming

Good for you. It is easy though, once you get the hang of it. I just use a small keychain swiss Army knife blade nowadays and it works great. You have to try and be as conservative as possible in how much to remove. Better to go back for another pass than to hammer it.

    Jim's C&D Folklore Review.

I may have to put that on my next order! Sounds right up my alley

Why I Like Smoking a Pipe

Aside from the cool factor of the pipes themselves, I enjoy the flavor ranges, paraphernalia, and of course, the vitamin N lol.

New Pipe from Ron Powell @RDPipes

Having smoked it solidly for days now, I can say it’s a great smoking pipe. I’m looking forward to years of enjoyment from it. Definitely worth looking into if you’re in the market

I go into work at 4 am Mon -Fri, or I’d be there. I’d still like to be on your mailing list though.

    Why, I Ask...

Years ago, I ran around the country for a while with Grateful Dead tour hippies. I have seen this, but didn’t know it had become so mainstream. It is legit, and it’s a bizarre experience, if a short lived one. Btw, there are easier means to procure dmt. Ask Joe Rogan lol.

New Pipe from Ron Powell @RDPipes

My wife set me up to get a commission for Christmas, so I had this lovat made. Very pleased with its performance and the fit and finish is great. I had been watching his pipes on the BoB forum for a few years now, and I have to say he makes a very well engineered pipe.

New Large Pipe, What to Smoke?

I honestly envy you, brother. Feeling out your tastes in pipes and tobaccos is a great experience early on. I don’t consider big bowls to be different than small really. It’s more about proportion. Wider bowls smoke a bit cooler. I’d stick to ribbon cut or a cake with something bigger to make...

John Brandt from Wilke Pipe Tobacco on Radio Show of January 18, 2022

I would actually like to hear that, I’d bet he’d have some stories to tell lol. Tobacco folks seem to be an unusual sort, huh?

John Brandt from Wilke Pipe Tobacco on Radio Show of January 18, 2022

Sounds like it’ll be a good one, I really like the shows that deal with the more historical American companies.

Anyone Mainly Buy Bulk Tobaccos (or Even Exclusively)?

I buy tins when it is the only format, or to try new things. I smoke bulks daily though, and that’s by design. Typically, I’ve been getting a lb of MacBaren old dark fired ready rubbed and C&D poplar camp once a month for daily smoking, and some random tins of interesting new things for weekends...

    Do you Dump Ash Mid-smoke?

I just tip the pipe over and tap on the heel with my finger, or a pipe knocker in the ashtray. The light, dry ash falls right out.

Maybe one More… Then I Gotta go Home!

I have three at the moment. They smoke well in my experience. They are designed at least by higher end pipe makers, so the design and engineering are really good. The fit is pretty good too. However, the briar is not the most exquisite pieces and the finishing isn’t meticulous. At least not in...

Maybe one More… Then I Gotta go Home!

I’ll second the post from chasingembers. There are a lot of great pipes at significantly lower prices. Both hand and factory made. There are numerous pipe carvers that produce great smoking pipes at half the price of Castello. Factory pipes from Peterson and savinelli are great in the $100+...

    Do you Dump Ash Mid-smoke?

Yeah, I dunno. I always figured if you’re getting sweet smoke, and it doesn’t go out all the time and burn your mouth, then you got it right. Outside of that, I’m not sure there’s a wrong way to smoke a pipe, unless you’re smoking and not enjoying it. I picked up smoking a pipe originally from...

Maybe one More… Then I Gotta go Home!

Yeah. And I honestly think I like the old sea rock finish better than the standard. A bit less high maintenance insofar as the rim isn’t smooth and lighter colored.
