Things You Hate About Pipe Smoking

I have two, the one in question was a John Peele estate billiard, and it is only a little bigger than the wind cap. My other is the Mountbatten estate (I call my beater) because the bowl is massive. I use a champagne cork to plug that one. At ray47, I have a few blends in my cellar that I am...

Pipe Life Expectancy, New And Estate

When would one consider a pipe ready for the trash? I saw Cosmic use glue to fix a newly dropped pipe. And I have seen amazing restores. I have a couple estates I'm hesitiant to clean as they are so charred where the bowl meets the shank (what I would call burn out) I am not sure it's worth the...

Things You Hate About Pipe Smoking

Embers, honestly I have one and I use it daily. This particular bowl is too large for the wind cap I have, so I use a wine cork cut to the right size. I rolled the dice this time and lost, ha. But for those who don't have a wind cap, definitely worth the 2 bucks.

Things You Hate About Pipe Smoking

Just yesterday I was smoking in the car and placed my pipe on my travel coffee mug in my center console to run into a store. Upon my return I hit the stem of the pipe, it spun quickly and ashes flew everywhere. I smoked 3 bowls yesterday and cleaning up the mess would have been the worst part...

    Winslow pipes

I have a Winslow Poker, the 90-100 dollar one. Pretty sure it's a Viking grade, which means it may be machined but finished by hand. It still has a Made By Hand stamp. I love it and it is one of my work horses! The above grades E is the lower and A is the higher. But as noted, they might smoke...

    Slow Down Cornell & Diehl

I cut my teeth on C&D blends, and a few GLP. I have been impressed since day one and easily can smoke them all day. Right now cycling through Dreams of Kadath, Opening Night, Sunday Picnic, CRF and Fillmore. I have tried Jack Knife Plug, but struggle to appreciate the Burley. I have a dozen...

    NOT Sir John's Flake

Did you order more with the intention of getting them “replaced” once received?

    Lighter Porn

Once I opened the lighter up, the flint had actually fell out of alignment. I put it back in place and seems to light just fine now! Thanks jpmcwjr for questioning what was wrong with it otherwise I might have trashed it! Has anyone had to replace the flints on theirs yet? If so, does it matter...

    Lighter Porn

I just watched a video on how to replace these and will have to see if that is what it is. Should have thought about that before.

    Lighter Porn

The part that spins has zero resistance to it, just spins freely. Usually it had resistance to make the spark and ignite the flame. Maybe I dont know enough about them but I can't figure out any way to adjust or replace anything.

    Lighter Porn

Mine crapped out after a month of use. Was fun to use while it lasted but won't be getting another. Off to hunt for something else!

Holy Embers!! Chatter Removal [Pic Heavy]

Thanks Al, I thought there should have been another step to prevent the stem from getting out of shape. This stem was my first attempt at this. It is a pipe I dont smoke often since the bowl is so huge. The stem did start to bend and I used a wet paper towel to cool and bend back. Next time...

A Gifted Scantic - Clean Up [Pic Heavy]

Please do and post it! I saw another thread where you cleaned a stem with a magic eraser, bar keep cleaner, and toothpaste. If I can clean stems without micromesh, that would be awesome! And I used way too much toothpaste, haha.

A Gifted Scantic - Clean Up [Pic Heavy]

According to the video above, this works for all stems. I have a heat gun on the way and will try it out on the ones that need it. Duane, how much toothpaste do you use? I used quite a bit and had to run it through the faucet to clean it off. Maybe just a pea size next time?

    Everyday no brainer smoke

A Gifted Scantic - Clean Up [Pic Heavy]

After the time I put into this one and the Mountbatten, I went on Amazon and picked up a heat gun for 30 bucks. May make life a little easier!

Holy Embers!! Chatter Removal [Pic Heavy]

Embers gave me a hint on how to get rid of chatter in another post of mine. I do a lot of research, but didn't know about this one. He showed me a video of using a heat gun (or heat source) to the stem to bring out the indentations. I immediately pulled my Mountbatten estate with two giant tooth...

A Gifted Scantic - Clean Up [Pic Heavy]

Alright gents, I ignored my wife and ignored my kids yesterday, and took a flame to the stem on this Scantic. Wow!! Heat, micro-mesh pads, toothpaste, then pipe cloth. I need new micromesh pads, but made it work. Going to post another thread about a different stem I did first, but this is a...

A Gifted Scantic - Clean Up [Pic Heavy]

Caught me jpmcwjr! I was trying to make the polishing look better, and the chatter look less, but here is the up close after the polish. Still much nicer to me than the before! Top Bottom And thanks Embers for the heat gun video. At the end they suggest even a votive candle will work, which...
