    Problems with Meerschaum

I have a cheap Servi pipe. Surprisingly very good draw and smoke but it also suffers from heating up quite a bit if you don't utilize the breath method.

    Porcelain Goede pipes?

That's the type of info I like to hear before I let PAD get me going on an ebay spree buying junk and trinkets lol. Thank you

    Porcelain Goede pipes?

Recently came across a Calabash pipe that I thought was a legit gourd pipe and amber stem but when I asked to inspect it closer it turned out to be a Goede porcelain pipe in mint condition. Are these things decent smokers? I've already seen a bunch on ebay for relatively cheap and they must get...

    A Very Long Shot...

Good to know. I have several suspect amber or bakelite stemmed pipes but they are very old antiques. I see no point in using them but I just like collecting nice specimens.

    A Very Long Shot...

Thank you for the info. Is there any magic to these amber or bakelite/redmanol stems as far as the smoke goes? I have only ever smoked modern acrylic stems. Haven't even had a ebonite yet but hope to aquire one some day.

Good eye. Never noticed the rings. I'm familiar with bakelitr but what is redmanol? I've heard the term just never seen a definition

    A Very Long Shot...

How can you tell? I'm a noob so genuinely interested to learn the difference. I have cigar and cigarette holders that I collect as well. But the are usually angled way more than a typical pipe is. Here is an example a friend in Poland found for me.

    A Very Long Shot...

I forgot to add that I bought it thinking it was highly sanded briar which is what the antique dealer said as well. I showed pics of it to a highly regarded pipemaker and he is saying meerschaum with a very nice patina. But also that it was a cigar pipe and its missing the bowl he said if you...

    A Very Long Shot...

I bought it years ago from an antique dealer for 105 dollars. A bargain in my book.

    A Very Long Shot...

A very long shot but a beautiful pipe to look at. Does the note and initials mean anything as far as maker? I collected antique large pipes. This baby is beautiful and scares me to smoke but I should have a professional clean it. I think it's amber stem but not exactly sure.
