Home-made Corn Cob Pipe (Version 2.0)

That's a nice looking pipe you made there. My first one started looking pretty ragged after a short while, so it will become a snowman prop this winter. My plastered 2.0 version is probably still drying out a bit, but it looks like it will hold up a lot better than my first try. At least the...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Since I mentioned finding an old knife above, I ought to post a picture of it in this thread. From what I can tell, it’s an Old Hickory boning knife from the 1930s. My Dad joined the Army shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, so it’s unlikely he would have got it during the war. By the end...

That's a nice looking pipe, is it floating?

***What Are You Smoking, June 2025?***

I had an inaugural bowl of my cherry version of Three Friars in a home-made cob pipe. I plastered the outside of this one which allowed me to drill out the chamber enough to use a tamper. It smokes great!

Home-made Corn Cob Pipe (Version 2.0)

Thanks for the kind words guys! After hours of wind and rain, the clouds cleared out and it was briefly beautiful so I decided to walk my dog around the neighborhood lake. Of course I could not wait for any additional drying time for my new creation and I’m glad I didn’t. I was a much improved...

Home-made Corn Cob Pipe (Version 2.0)

A few weeks ago I made a corn cob pipe from a piece of corn I had for dinner. I documented it here: I Made a Pipe from Last Night’s Dinner :: Pipe Talk - https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/threads/i-made-a-pipe-from-last-night%E2%80%99s-dinner.109564/ It worked well enough, but the chamber was...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Always nice to see a Randall @BayouGhost ! Today I just finished up sharpening a bunch of kitchen knives. I thought I’d post my sharpening stone collection. The stones below range from medium Carborundum to Hard Arkansas. All but one I inherited from my Dad. He was a butcher in the late...

You Just Hate To See This

Cleaning out my dad's house I found a lot of old (50 to 70 year old) tobacco cans. Some had rust. I've rehydrated and smoked it all over the years. No ill effects to report yet. I normally just pinch out the center stuff and toss the edge/bottom stuff that was in contact with the rust.

A Ruger $200 Back Pocket Glock

I know this thread started off as a pocket pistol kind of deal, but since there have been so many nice handgun photos posted, I’ll add a couple more if no one minds. I bought a Security Six from a Military Police buddy in the early 80s. I didn’t really need it, but it was $75.00 and he just...

A Ruger $200 Back Pocket Glock

I do enjoy the nice gear on display here. I always wanted a black powder revolver as a kid (back in the ‘70s) but never got one. A couple of my buddies got the new (in those days) Ruger Army black powder pistol in stainless steel. It was a really fun gun to shoot. Hell, it was fun to load! I...

A Ruger $200 Back Pocket Glock

I normally don't post on non-pipe topics here, but since you guys were nice enough to post pictures (I love threads with pictures) I'll add to the mix. Thanks especially to @Briar Lee for starting this thread, and @condorlover1 for a black powder and a revolver all in one. I'm not an auto vs...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Today I dug out an old motorcycle that’s been burried at my Dad’s place for about 40 years. It’s 1969 Honda 750 converted to a soft-tail chopper. After I cleared off the years of junk, I commemorated the event with a bowl of Golden Days of Yore in a 1960s no name Red Root full bent pipe. It’ll...

Show Off Your Pipe Tamper Here

I like that the humble pipe tool can have sentimental value. It’s funny how things can take on a life of their own based on their association with people, or just plain old age. My son and I used to go metal detecting on an old Army training area and you’d be surprised how cool he thought it was...

    Rainy Weather Smokes?

Well first off, happy belated (6 May) Teacher Appreciation Day to @BriaronBoerum ! If it's a deluge, then I keep working on my ark. If it's a normal rain and I'm out already, I just keep smoking, maybe I'll turn my pipe upside down if it's heavy. If I'm just enjoying a pipe and it's raining...

    Royal Comoy Kruger Restored

Beautiful pipe and nicely refinished! I don't know of any other wood that has those amazing swirls. Van Gogh was a pipe smoker, maybe the swirls in his briar gave him the idea...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

I'm still fooling around with a home-made cob, today with a 50/50 mixture of cherry and corn silk while burning old cardboard at my brother's place. Its's a fun little pipe that will end up as a snow man prop this winter.

I Made a Pipe from Last Night’s Dinner

Thanks for all the interest in the humblest of pipes (OK, probably the mashed potato pipe would be more humble). I used a pocketknife to drill the chamber hole initially, but then a drill bit that I hand turned, and finally some coarse sandpaper to widen it a bit. I don't think there's any...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Today I had two bowls of my ribbon cut burly-based cherry aromatic in this cob I slapped together from what was a dinner side-dish yesterday. It’s such a narrow chamber that I finished each bowl (tube?) in 15 minutes. It smoked surprisingly well but I think I prefer to just smoke a bigger pipe...

I Made a Pipe from Last Night’s Dinner

My first ever home-made corn cob pipe. We had corn with dinner last night and I saved some of the silk to blend with tobacco, and the cobs to see if any were wide enough to make a pipe. They weren’t really but this is the result with the thickest one. It smokes far better than I expected for a...

Peterson Bowl Cracked During Alcohol Cleaning

I would be tempted to show that crack off since it's on the front of the bowl and has an interesting pattern. Google "Japanese gold glue" for some ideas.
