    Finally Got Myself a Ferndown

I love my one star Ferndowns. The three star I have is beautiful but it's massive. I do still smoke it more than I thought I would when it first arrived.

1985 Photos of the Capitello Factory/Pipe Collectors Shows

I need that 'When pipe smoking is outlawed, only outlaws will smoke pipes" shirt 🤣

From Tierra del Fuego to Alaska on a 90cc motorcycle.

Interesting! I watched the reverse trip pretty much where Ed March traveled from Alaska to Argentina on a Honda C90.

Is This Cake or Just Crud?

I don't build cake in my pipes for the sake of having thick cake or to improve the smoke. Cake builds because I don't wipe them down after every smoke and only clean them when I deem it necessary. Sometimes that is when the cake has gotten so thick that the tamper won't fit in the chamber...

    Is it Safe?

Yeah I'd be dead already if smoking out of estates was that dangerous. Majority of my pipe collection is estates. I don't do a salt soak on basically any of them unless they're badly ghosted. Pipe cleaners dipped in iso alcohol run through the stem, cleaning the outside of the stem of any...

XXV Reserve: A Celebration of 25 Years of Smokingpipes

I was able to grab some of the Dawn. Not a big DFK fan so I skipped Dusk. For the 20th anniversary SP blends I skipped the regular and only bought the XX Dark Flake and later wished I'd bought some of the regular XX Flake. Hopefully this isn't an instance where I should've learned from past...

    Sasieni Date / Patent Clarification

Or find an example like the one posted of stampings and patent that match for an earlier date than 1960. Pretty simple! Mind blowing to think that a pipe company in the 40s would use a name for a finish before they patented it, I know 🤣 Couldn't be a happier ending than someone who knows what...

    Show Off Your Kaywoodie Pipes

Very nice work! Did you make the clover insert or find a donor?

    Another Stuck Stem Question

Just got one free tonight that did not budge after being soaked with alcohol and then froze. After a day or so I soaked it with more alcohol and put it back in the freezer and promptly forgot about it for a couple days. Pulled it out tonight and with a good amount of force I was able to get the...

USB-C Connectors are Most Excellent Gooderns!

What about all the other phone manufacturers who have been using USB-C since it first became available? Are they not capitalists?

USB-C Connectors are Most Excellent Gooderns!

It's funny you say this, because the only reason apple stopped using proprietary chargers was because the EU required them to. I guess a blind squirrel will occasionally find a nut. But the fact that a government agency has to step in and tell apple to get with the times should tell you exactly...

    Savinelli Punto Oro Price Increase

I'll agree that I'm not paying these new prices, but the Punto Oro I've picked up as estates for good deals are some of my favorite Savinellis. But I'm a sucker for a good sandblast and a classic shape.

Nova Pipes & Tobacco - New Online Pipes & Tobacco Store

First order from Nova arrived safely so I went ahead and placed my second order with them. Thanks for sponsoring the site and having a great selection of tobacco!

Unusual Dunhill pipes. Help needed understanding.

That was my thought. I've got a Dunhill with a similar fixed tube inside it and I suspect it was glued in to fix a break based on some sanding on the outside that looks to be part of a repair. I don't actually see the line of the crack on my pipe either but I can't think of another reason it...

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

That straight system collection is amazing. I keep coming back to look at them again and again. I need to start the hunt for an old straight system Pete.

    Best Smoker For Under $100?

This would be my answer as well. There's a lot of options for under $100. I've gotten Castellos and Dunhills under that price as estates and the vast majority of my Petes and Savs have come in well under $100. All of the GBD, BBB, Comoy's, Chacom, and then even cheaper Kaywoodies and Dr Grabows...

    Savinelli Punto Oro Price Increase

According to the Danish Pipe Shop, Savinelli is blaming it on briar shortage. They are also dating and numbering them now which they've never done in the past to my knowledge. https://www.danishpipeshop.com/d/Savinelli-Punto-Oro-Gold-Model-320-186-300-i33143.html

Bead Lines Repair On a Dr Plumb Perfect Pipe

How'd you do the repair? Briar dust in wood glue? Or just regular wood filler?

    Tobacco Reviews Website Down

I wish I had that type of optimism! If STG is involved my assumption is they're royally screwing it up. Why do pipe smokers need a tobacco review site when STG is attempting to further cut the number of blends available for pipe smokers significantly? Once they start scrapping the least...

    Peterson “Good Health”

First Peterson filter pipes from my understanding. I saw a bulldog on eBay not long ago but passed because I prefer to smoke without a filter. I think the bulldog sat around for a while on eBay before finally selling for around $80. Here's an article that mentions them...
