Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

This is the first sandblasted Tradition I have seen, are they rare in the sandblast finish?

    Marxman Select Grain

I don't have one, but it looks like one sold for $19.99 on ebay about three weeks ago. I am surprised you didn't buy it!

    Marxman Select Grain

Totally nitpicking, but I prefer the looks of the "arrow" stinger that was in some Marxman pipes. How many total Marxmans do you own?

    Bertram Grade 40 Bulldog

I kept looking at this one, particularly as the price kept dropping. I almost pulled the trigger but decided it was too much like the Bertram I already have. Enjoy!

    Post-first-bowl thoughts

One little thing, you said you kept it lit for 20-25 minutes. Nothing wrong with that, but don’t think of keeping it lit as your goal. There is nothing wrong with re-lighting. If you try too hard to keep it lit you can end up smoking too fast and losing out on some of the flavor. Enjoy!

    Charatan Question

Im I’m not a Charatan expert, but I do know Special ranks above Belvedere. I guess they were just fortunate to get more Specials?

    Morning Blend Anyone?

Usually I go for something like Sutliff Ready Rubbed Match or Anglers Dream. Lately I’ve been enjoying some Telegraph Hill in the morning.

    Pipe Dedicating Gone Awry

You are so right, but in this case I was the one who did the cleaning and the shank and mortise were clean as a whistle. The pipe just tasted sour for some reason.

    Pipe Dedicating Gone Awry

It was an estate pipe that had been thoroughly cleaned, and the bowl had a salt/alcohol treatment on top of the cleaning. I don’t know if the pipe was bad from birth or became that way, but it couldn’t have been any cleaner.

    Pipe Dedicating Gone Awry

It seems that on a consistent basis the question of whether to dedicate a pipe to one blend comes up. Of course, the basic answer is “do what you want”. I don’t really do a lot of pipe dedicating, except that I reserve the ooccaional goopy aromatic for one pipe. However, if I have a good smoke...

    Nicotine Double Down

I have had some open for a couple of years. It gets drier and loses some flavor, but it still works. At least that has been my experience.

    Nicotine Double Down

With nasal snuff, nicotine content can vary quite a bit from snuff to snuff. Also, don’t be afraid to take a larger dose. You can get quite a nic hit from the right stuff.

    Nicotine Double Down

In addition to smoking a pipe, I’m also a fan of nasal snuff. I often take snuff immediately after I finish smoking a pipe. Occasionally before a pipe too. Surely I’m not the only one here who does something like this, right? What other forms of tobacco do you like to “double down “ with?

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

Telegraph Hill. My first smoke in an estate Charatan I picked up. It has an acrylic replacement stem and it kinda makes me wish all of my Charatan pipes had an acrylic stem. Very nice grain for a Belvedere.

    Rusticated vs Sandblasted

Just to throw something else in here; aren’t there pipes that are rusticated and then sandblasted for a slightly different look altogether? I would swear I have seen examples of such pipes but a quick internet search did not yield any pics.
