    USPS New Question Added

Don't know about the US, but from/in the EU I have made good experiences with "second hand collectible tins".

Strange Markings on a Charatan Special

Yep, just checked the other eBay images.

Strange Markings on a Charatan Special

Thanks. The buffing of the stem is easy to explain, that was me. See how it looked like when I got it: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/FGkAAOSwmZFjVh1N/s-l1600.jpg (3rd from the left). But the fit seems a valid point.

Strange Markings on a Charatan Special

What really puzzles me is the CP logo. The typefont is completely different from the CP logos shown here: Charatan -- Pipes : Logos & Markings - http://www.pipephil.eu/logos/en/logo-charatan.html Maybe it's not the original stem, but that would be unlikely for an unsmoked pipe. It was quite...

Strange Markings on a Charatan Special

Thanks everyone. I also reckoned Lane area. I will give it to my wife for better images, she is the Leica user here :)

Thx. Any ideas about the logo?

Strange Markings on a Charatan Special

Hi folks, this lot I've acquired becomes more and more interesting. It also contains an unsmoked Charatan Special (unfortunately with a little scratch in the shank) which is quite puzzling. The pipe only shows a number "3" on the rear side of the shank, and the logo on the stem is quite...

What does Dunhill Shape 339 look like?

That would be this one But mine's a Canadian with oval shank.

What does Dunhill Shape 339 look like?

OK that seems to be my bowl. But the stem is cut off in the photo  Thanks though!!

What does Dunhill Shape 339 look like?

Hi all, I scored a collection of old pipes to restore, among them a bowl without stem. Oval shank Billiard/Canadian type It is stamped DUNHILL SHELL / MADE IN ENGLAND16 and has the shape number 339 . No group stamp (which seems fine, as it says in the dating guide they were dropped in 1976...

Show us the Pipe that Started Your Smoking Adventure!

My first pipe - typical for a German, was a Vauen, bought mid nineties. I've never grown to become a Vauen fan, but I still treasure it:

    Best Pipe for Aromatics

I fully agree. I also do smoke aromatics without filter, but I look out for a good tobacco base, like in the Lakelands or the HUs This applies more to that glue-like Black Cavendish stuff.

    Best Pipe for Aromatics

@aquadoc @Chasing Embers Here in Germany, where most pipe smokers smoke with filter, this is common sense. I have found a good explanation from German Pipe blogger Ralli and will DeepL it in here: New recipes that were not so "new" saw the light of day in the world of specialised trade...

    Best Pipe for Aromatics

Agreed. I suppose every pipe with a larger chamber diameter is helpful there. And of course be aware that most aromatics (at least of the Danish variety, Mac Baren and the likes) are designed to be smoked with filter, so they do produce more liquid.

    There’s No Bad Pipe Tobacco

Yes, same here. I would say it depends of one's understanding of "bad". There is nothing intrinsically "bad" about Maggi soup cubes, in terms of that they will give you food poisoning, but when you compare it to a self-cooked broth from a chicken and fresh vegetables, there is a large...

Have You Ever Regretted Selling a Pipe?

Not real regret, but probably today I would have kept my Les Wood Spigot which I had scored at eBay for a ridiculous bargain price and sold right away to make a quick buck. But that's how the spirit of a collector evolves, at the time it felt right because I that considered it insane to own a...

Danish Semi-Freehands - Best Value for Money

Hi, anyone else who likes the typical so-called Danish Semi-Freehands, meaning pipes from the 70s or 80s that were made from pre-drilled ebauchons but then hand-carved and finished? For me these pipes are the best all-day pipes. Great design, fabulous smokers and really way underpriced at the...

    NAAFI Pipe Tobacco

Still looking for the occasion to crack it... I used to have a NAAFI tin of Gold Block as well but I swapped it for a Radice rusticated pipe...

    Germain’s Chat With a Tobacconist

A well-known German pipe-blogger spends some time sailing in the Channel every year and tried the same. All he came back with was a recommendation for a top restaurant in St Helier :ROFLMAO:
