EMP is a great start.
Chelsea Morning will give you a mild taste of Latakia, but isn’t an English blend. Virginia and Latakia, without orientals. Good blend, though.
Dinner tonight was boiled blue crabs with melted butter and lemon to dip.
Crab meat is such a unique food. There is really nothing similar. I have loved it since I was a boy. Perfect to me.
I’m not sure what I’m smoking, but I know it’s a red Va, and I’m smoking it in a Radice Rind twin-bore. It’s part of the blind tasting of red VAs that Mrs. Pickles is running. Lots of fun.
Final thoughts
I am sitting on the porch smoking the remnants of Samples 1 & 2 mixed together to make a full pipe. Lovely!
For my tastes, I rank the samples as follows: 1, 2, 5, 4, 6, 3.
Thanks again @Mrs. Pickles . I look forward to the big reveal.
Sample 6
This sample came too dry for me. I placed into a bowl with a damp paper towel over it for 1.5 hours and it was perfect.
The tin note is lightly sweet bread. No vinegar note, so not McClellands or Sutliff.
I smoked it in my small lovat. Very spicy as I start the smoke - I think it...
Sample 5
I really like this blend. It comes as a ribbon cut and is easy burning. I smoked it in my most-smoked VA pipe - a Radice twin-bore.
It has all the flavors of a good red VA - rich, sweet, tangy, dark fruit and spice, without the grassy and hay qualities. However every flavor is...
Sample 4
This presents as a loosely pressed flake. Appearance and tin note makes me think GL Pease. Maybe a blend with reds and brights.
For the 1st half bowl, I got a good volume of smoke that tasted more like brights with citrus and hay. I almost wondered if there was perique in it -...
Sample 3
This was a very mild red VA blend. It was mostly a ribbon cut , but might have been broken flake at one time.
On first light, there was just no flavor, maybe some caramel in the background. As the smoke continued it strengthened . It wasn’t until the last 1/8 bowl that I was...
Sample #2
Upon opening the pouch, I quickly came to 2 conclusions : this blends is also from McClellands and is likely one of the Christmas Cheer series.
A beautiful smoke of well-aged VAs. Another treat from @Mrs. Pickles
A simple way for me to do this is to compare it to Sample #1. This...
Hey guys. We got electricity back today (day 7) after the hurricane.
Red Vas are my favorite tobacco, so I am please to participate in this tasting. 5100 was a favorite in the day. I will post as I go, but won’t read your comments until after I’ve sampled a blend.
It was an absolute...
It is really good. I’d been smoking it for the past 3 weeks to determine if I should cellar RC-01 as a pure red VA. I’ve put away 3 lbs now, with 1 lb mixed with Perique.
I recently used the Sutliff Ts-20 perique to mix with RC-01 red cake. Used an ounce per 8 ounces of red VA, so 11% perique. It’s ribbon cut, so I think it mixes a little better.
@Mrs. Pickles , I received my samples fine. I won’t really be able to smoke for a few more days. We are in recovery from the hurricane, with no power.
Appreciate the good wishes.
Thank for sharing this project. It was fun to follow.
I would love to know how that pipe would have smoked. Maybe after you boiled away the bowl coating.
