    Tapping out ash...

Yes, I do exactly that. Most every bowl. Burns better and tastes better. However, I recently cube cut some FVF and when I dumped the ash, most everything spilled out.

***What Are You Smoking, January 2023?***

Capstan Blue in a Radice spiral bulldog. I’ve spent a good bit of time researching tobaccos that are similar to and cheaper than Capstan. So, I decided to refresh my memory on why I like the original so much.

    Why Peterson?

I don’t own any Peterson pipes. When I started smoking I looked at some and didn’t like the aesthetics. Many seemed heavy. Because of this thread, I am reconsidering. One that draws me is the Lovat #53. I’m thinking of finding one in a very classic finish that could be never be mistaken for...

    Tobacco Storage Questions

I have heard of people with that superpower. But it isn’t me. I have 20 tins open at all times, so, I use small ball jars for those. If it takes 2 years to finish a tin, the tobacco is still fine.

    Mold help needed tonight.

Follow up: I tossed the tin at the shop. I kept this mostly private, because the guy I bought it from was at the table. I didn’t want to make him feel bad. He wouldn’t have known. As I dumped it out bit by bit, the mold was growing throughout the tin. It was nasty. I just hadn’t seen that...

    Mold help needed tonight.

Guys, I am smoking with the Houston Pipe Club right now. I brought a 2016 8oz tin of Chelsea Morning to pop and pass around. Popped the top and found mold. It’s yellowish white. Can I remove an inch of tobacco off the top and smoke it anyway? How dangerous is this? Thanks. We are waiting...

***What Are You Smoking, December 2022?***

This year’s Cringle Flake in a Radice Silk Cut spiral bulldog. New old stock, third smoke. The family has been enjoying some 1000 piece puzzles over the holidays. Turns out that they have to put their phones down to puzzle! We’ve had some good conversations in the process. Tip - construct...

What Have You Cellared the Longest?

Shortly after switching from cigars to pipes in 2001, I discovered Syrian Latakia and fell in love. The best Syrian blend to me was GL Pease Renaissance, which had recently been discontinued. So I began gathering what I could get my hands on. That was the start of my cellar.

Is it acceptable to throw bagged tobaccos into a Tupperdor?

I’ve got 2 Tupperware boxes for random baggies and open tins of tobacco. One for Latakia blends and one for all else. None of this is fit long term storage, but are part of my open tins. The better stuff is in short term jars.

    Blend specific pipe

My pipes are divided primarily in two categories - Virginia pipes and Latakia pipes. My main goal is to be able to smoke VAs without tasting Latakia, which can easily dominate more subtle leaves. I don’t smoke many straight burley blends, but would smoke them in VA pipes. I don’t smoke many...

    Capstan Original Navy Flake (Blue)

Team Blue here. I tried a gold tin, but really found nothing interesting about it. I didn’t finish the tin.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2022?***

St. James Flake in a Stanwell Rondo billiard. It’s a nice 54 degrees this evening out on the back porch. The Christmas tree and more decorations are up, so my wife is happy and we are looking forward to this pre-Christmas week. I’m feeling particularly content today.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2022?***

I am out on the back porch smoking Best Brown Flake in an Ashton Old Church bent billiard. We just got back from a church class party that was deserts only. It was great, as we were in and out in 2 hours and are buzzing on sugar. I love the holidays!
