Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

How is this topic divisive? Serious question. I’ve found it extremely helpful and encouraging.

Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

Which would you prefer: Folks who don’t have “medical degrees” just talking about what worked for them for weight loss (a topic apparently many here are actually interested in), or a thread where someone (again with no “medical degree”) admonished everyone to “go get their shots”? Did that...

What Pen are You Using Today?

Oh, and thanks for the compliment! My work is a bit like if Tolkien's calligraphy had an ugly first cousin. You can obviously spot his influence, but I've added my own flair. I'm sure he did the same in his own time since there is nothing truly original under the sun. Penmanship is a lot of fun.

What Pen are You Using Today?

I actually admire you fellows with fountain pen collections. I wish I knew someone personally who had some so I could try them out. My parsimony is to the point to where I'm rarely willing to spend money to "try" something out. I just stick with what I know in most things.

What Pen are You Using Today?

I actually had a Lamy Safari a few years ago and didn't care for it at all. The nib was blunt and I couldn't get good clean lines with it at all. I contacted someone who does work on fountain pens and was told I could get the nib sharpened, etc., but it would've cost more than the pen itself...

What Pen are You Using Today?

I'm a calligraphy nerd but have never seemed to make the leap to fountain pens. I have had some but I found them high-maintenance and more trouble than they were worth. I think if I had a desk in an office where I kept all my stuff it would be one thing, but we live in a little house and my...

What Pen are You Using Today?

I know most in this thread are enthusiasts of fountain pens, and that's cool, but I only try and offer another perspective. A man doesn't have to have a fountain pen to get good lines. These cheap and ubiquitous Sharpie pens (not markers) can get you a long way down the road to good lines if...

What Pen are You Using Today?

Sharpie fine point pen. Simple, cheap, and they work very well. I've been using them daily for years.

Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

Occam's Razor strikes again. In the only surviving letter I have from my grandfather, he made this statement, which rings true and comes to mind a lot: "Most problems can be solved with good common sense." I was at a party last night (Christmas parties are a killer for overeating, this one...

As an old buddy used to say: "Two tons of fun!"

Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

Thanks for bringing this up as I needed the reminder. I’ve worked an insane amount of hours this year and haven’t slept nearly enough.

Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

I don’t doubt that fat people stayed off the beach more back in the day. Hell, this was true in the 80s when I was a kid. The only people who went to the pool in our town were “hot” - everyone else stayed away. I’m talking more about street scene photos in black and white, the types with men...

Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

I started walking years ago, not to lose weight but because it was a good excuse to get out of the shop and see the sunshine daily. It also clears my head and keeps me sane. Many people think walking a bit each day will keep one thin, but just look at all the overweight Mail-carriers.

Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

When I say unsustainable, I’m mostly referring to eating once daily, not eating this or that. Most of that stuff goes out the window by being invited out to dinner or to a party. Also, who can go the rest of his life not eating pasta, drinking a beer, and enjoying ice cream? Who’d want to...

Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

All good info, but other than just cutting out sweets and soda pop on the regular, cutting down on beer, none of this is sustainable. Anyone I’ve ever known that does any kind of diet (call it a lifestyle if you like but it’s still a diet) ultimately fails and gets fat again. I’m trying to...

Who has Been Successful Losing Weight and Keeping It Off?

This thread is now open! [Title shortened and some words "de-capped".] Original: "How Many Of You Have Been Successful At Losing Weight & Keeping It Off?" I’d be curious to know what you did / are doing? Seems like when I focus on slimming down, all I think about is food! I exercise but...

Do You Read On A Kindle, Paper Books, Audiobooks?

Absolutely! Go over to Project Gutenberg and snag the (free) text: then you can make your own document and make it look like whatever. I did this for years.

Do You Read On A Kindle, Paper Books, Audiobooks?

Big fan of the public library system here. A good library is a treasure to have nearby.

Do You Read On A Kindle, Paper Books, Audiobooks?

Back when I had a desk job, I’d get ebooks and put them in Word and make them look like my work screen. Read a ton of books like that under the boss’s nose. Union life!
