Recommendations for Moving Away from Aromatics.

There have been several mentions of Pegasus and it got me curious. I read some reviews and one fellow said: “A quintessential Burley blend. It's simple, nutty, smooth, and satisfying. Leaves a room smelling nice too. Pegasus is like a boutique version of Carter Hall—it's smoother, and way...

    The Perfect EDC Knife

When I was a kid in the 80s I collected knives. At one point I probably had close to 100. While some were junk, some were quite nice and expensive for the time. My favorite was a small, curved butterfly knife by “Valor.” I carried that thing everywhere and can’t believe I lost track of it...

    The Perfect EDC Knife

The Sodbuster is a great, very basic knife that does what I need a knife to do. Pretty simple. My dad never had much money so I figured it must’ve been a cheap knife back in the day. The steel seems pretty subpar and it doesn’t take or hold an edge very well. My son’s Benchmade is a much...

At $35 they must be made in China now?

    The Perfect EDC Knife

My EDC is my dad’s (RIP) old Case XX Sodbuster. The plowman on the blade rubbed off a long time ago. I used to be able to faintly see it in the right light, but no more. I think he got this knife sometime in the 70s.

Thanks for taking the time to give such a thorough reply. When I say “too strong” I don’t mean nicotine but just an overpowering and harsh taste. Those black, licorice-like tobaccos have been present in every blend I’ve disliked. When I go in shops there will sometimes be those big jars with...

Absolutely nothing wrong with aromatics. I’m just not getting much out of them anymore.

I hope you end up finding what you like as well. It's a tough thing having a craving in one's mind and hoping to find it, only to be disappointed upon getting a new blend. On some level I think I'm still chasing the sensation I discovered when I first began smoking a pipe. There was a local...

Thanks. I have not tried it in a good while, but it's got a thick, "oil-like" flavor (best way I can describe it) that I really dislike and don't think I could ever get accustomed to. I still remember the tin of Blue Note I got once that almost made me sick it had so much of. But when I just...

So, what are those black tobaccos called? I vehemently dislike the flavor of that stuff. If I know what it's called I can be sure to avoid the stuff with that blended in.

The reviews of Pegasus make it sound like something I might be looking for.

Country Squire's Middle Earth Series to be Renamed.

It's hard to see how those CS blends would truly threaten the Tolkien estate, but those names/terms do belong to them and they are theirs to do with as they please. I would think blends named after Middle Earth would only increase interest in the franchise, but they didn't consult me for my...

Recommendations for Moving Away from Aromatics.

Hello! I've been quite content for the past 15+ years to smoke my aromatics, but lately they just don't taste the same. It seems like my taste is changing and I'd like to find some other tobaccos to enjoy. To give you a hint of my palate, at least thus far, I have thoroughly enjoyed Captain...

    What are You Reading Now?

Ok, your post here intrigued me enough to place this on hold on my library's app. Turns out they have an audio copy, which is my preferred way of reading. When I get around to listening to it I'll chime back in.

Any Tips on Learning to Play the Banjo?

My grandmother was a classically-trained pianist and I play by ear and don't read music. I'd play something for her on guitar and she would be completely baffled as to how anyone can just play, much less make stuff up and write their own tunes out of thin air. I was equally amazed that anyone...

Any Tips on Learning to Play the Banjo?

I think the white looks a lot better. Tone, etc, is subjective, but the most important thing in any instrument is that it is easy enough to play (i.e., won't hurt your fingers) and will hold tune. If it meets those two criteria, it's a good instrument in my book. Play it in good health!

Any Tips on Learning to Play the Banjo?

I wish you well and hope this turns out to be a good purchase, and that you get lucky and end up with a playable instrument. Many of these sold-in-a-box deals on instruments don't end well. I play acoustic guitar mainly, but I also own an electric and a mandolin. In all honesty, I know I'm...
