    Carter Hall Blending

I use Carter Hall to fix things, like 1Q. Put the two of them together and it's much better than 1Q by itself. Blend a bit too strong? A sprinkle of Carter Hall. A bit too sweet? Pinch of CH will help. Find out Lakelands aren't your thing? Carter Hall will take it from burying your nose in...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

Real original, I know. But it's a classic for a reason. Carter Hall in a cob (Country Gentleman in this case) and coffee.

    With Whom Would You Smoke?

And here's a great example why I try to avoid humans in my day to day life.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

This! Sorry. "This" is a Shalom oom paul full of Carter Hall. Goes well with coffee.

    With Whom Would You Smoke?

At the end of the day, nobody really. I've met too many famous people in my life. I've found they are not who I've come to believe they are. For instance, the Mark Twain example. Twain might have been an interesting person but Sam Clemens might have been a real jackass. For example. I never knew...

What I Dislike About Smoking a Pipe

I can only think of 2 things that I don't like. And it's not even an active dislike, just not likes. First, there are too many places I can't smoke. That's not pipe smoking specific, that's all smoking. But it's still too many places. No standardization in terms. What exactly is a Balkan...

First Shipment of Tobaccos Have Arrived

7 Seas is made by Mac Baren and was developed to be a direct competitor to Captain Black, which is made by Lane. Lane is owned by the Scandinavian Tobacco Group, which just bought Mac Baren.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

I had smoked something strong in this Brigham Klondike Canadian at some point. Whatever the ghost is, it plays very nicely with Petit Robin.

First Shipment of Tobaccos Have Arrived

Great choices! Haunted Bookshop is one of my favorites. I agree that it does benefit greatly from a couple months in a jar. Very strong though. I have a few of the 7 Seas line that I quite enjoy. Be warned you might have to dry it out before smoking. Sometimes they can be a bit moist. And if...

    Soap Taste When Smoking Virginia

The first few times I smoked year old Superior Navy Flake I got a little tiny bit of what I'll call creamy. That combined with the mild topping I can see where one would get soapy. Like a pump bottle hand soap.

Help Me Pick a Nose Warmer

Missouri Meerschaum Pony Express or Eaton. Yes they're straight, but they are so light you can clench them easily for twice as long as they smoke.

Scandinavian Tobacco Group A/S to acquire Mac Baren Tobacco Company A/S

Doesn't Sutliff supply the components to most of these smaller blenders? I know WCC uses Sutliff leaf.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

Petit Robin in a MM Mark Twain pairs nicely with that first cup of coffee.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

Enjoying some pre-merger Sutliff Victorian in a Dr. Grabow Westbrook.

Scandinavian Tobacco Group A/S to acquire Mac Baren Tobacco Company A/S

My guess is it will. At least a US satellite office. It helps with the importation.

***What Are You Smoking, June 2024?***

Before the sun gets too angry, I'm enjoying a bit of C&D Sea Dog in an unbranded bulldog.

    Your Own "Best" Tobacco

For me in my world, one of the best things about pipe tobacco is the wonderful variety. Even the differences between, say for example, fresh compared to a year old compared to 4 year old Sutliff Victorian is noticeable. I like the variety way too much to enjoy one single blend for a single day...

    Ash Dumping Question

I will dump the ash if I need to. If I'm out and about and going to go into a store, I'll tip the bowl upside down and give it a little tap before putting the pipe in my pocket. I've had ash in my pocket too many times, I learned my lesson. Or if I have to relight a taller bowl I might dump the...

Heat and Humidity Affecting Outdoor Smoking?

I'm in the very same weather pattern. And I too am an outdoors smoker. My tobacco is just fine as I keep it inside. Same with my pipes. I just wait until sunset to smoke.

Need Enlightenment on "Black Frigate" tobacco.

I like Black Frigate, but it's not a perique blend, as cajun spice is decidedly missing. It's more an aromatic than anything. Very rummy. There is latakia in there, but it's far from the star of the show. A mild English soaked in rum would be how I describe it.
