How to Deep Clean my Pipe?

That exactly what I do, except instead of a q-tip I simply double over a pipe cleaner to clean the mortise. Also, I first use my pinkie finger to clean out the ash in the bowl, then follow it with a barely moist paper towel. Keeps it cake-free and very clean!

    Dr. Grabow Experts Please

Yep, it does pass the rubber smell test. And there is what I guess would be called light oxidation where his mouth covered the stem when smoking. It’s very very light discoloration. I’m thinking that could be buffed out, right? Or is there a better way?

    Dr. Grabow Experts Please

Yeah, I’m thinking it was made 1978. I say that because some other guy who is well studied up on Grabow from another website told me this specific model with the rustication was only made between 78-83’. My dad says he quite in the late 70’s, so I’m assuming he got a 78’ version since the bowl...

    Dr. Grabow Experts Please

Yes, I did see that page, which has a lot of great info, but it makes a distinction between the Eldorado (50’s-60’s), and the Eldorado Rustic (which first shored up in 1976 (at least in ads). My dad’s pipe is clearly rusticated, but I don’t know if the distinction they are making is one of...

    Dr. Grabow Experts Please

When I started smoking I found out from my dad that he still had a pipe in his basement from the days when he used to smoke (over 45 years ago). It’s a Dr. Grabow Eldorado 81 (rusticated). I was hoping you experts could tell me what year this pipe was made, and tell me what you know about this...

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

Of course, nothing better this day than some good ole Americana in my good ole MM Let Freedom Ring! Happy 4th Pipers!

***What Are You Smoking, July 2024?***

Just finished a bowl of Cherokee in my Savinelli 320KS. Wonderful blend in a wonderful pipe! I’m really starting to enjoy this pipe (4th smoke in it).

What I Dislike About Smoking a Pipe

Right, that’s what I’ve experienced. I’ve got some pipes that I could taste no matter what I smoked in them the first 4-5 times, and other pipes that smoked great from day one (typically my cobs). It took 7-8 smokes, in a couple of my briars, before reaching the no taste zone.

What I Dislike About Smoking a Pipe

    I don't like breaking in a pipe.

Scandinavian Tobacco Group A/S to acquire Mac Baren Tobacco Company A/S

On the positive side of things, there are a growing number of good artisan blenders, so I don't see our choices dwindling too much in the future - baring political agendas to ban continue to gain traction.

    Storing 8oz+?

I yeah, I bought that MacBaren 5 year batch. The HH Burley Flake (square tin) was dry as a bone when I popped the tin. They should just do away with those square tins - pretty worthless. That immediately went into a jar, but I'm going to need to hydrate it at some point.

    Savinelli 320KS Draft Hole

FOLLOW UP Well, Savinelli told me I could send it in and they would look at it and see what they could to do to put it in good smoking condition. I appreciated that, but got a little impatient waiting for their response, so I thought I'd just run a 2mm drill bit up the stem through the button...

    Savinelli 320KS Draft Hole

What do you mean by “a V”?

    Savinelli 320KS Draft Hole

Yes, I did manage to get a cleaner through it, but it wasn’t easy - very tight.

    Ash Dumping Question

How in the world are you not tamping and not relighting? That almost seems impossible - the way tobacco burns.

    Savinelli 320KS Draft Hole

Thank you! Wow, so it is that small. Well, there must be some obstruction going inside at the bend. I guess I’ll see what Savinelli says.

    Savinelli 320KS Draft Hole

Okay, I was greatly excited when I received my 320KS for Father's Day, but greatly let down on the 1st smoke... It felt like I was trying to suck peanut butter through a straw just trying to get my tobacco lit. ? I thought "Surely with the great reputation this pipe has something has to be...

    MM Cob Love

Half of my pipes are cobs! I love them. Love the look, the feel, and the way they smoke. The fact they are cheap makes them even greater!

    Father’s Day Pipe!

Awesome! That’s my next favorite Savinelli shape that I also hope to get soon! I like that color also. Happy Father’s Day!

    Father’s Day Pipe!

I pointed my wonderful daughters to The Pipe Nook for a Father’s Day suggestion and they bought me my first Savinelli for Father’s Day! Love it! Praise God for wonderful children!
