Selling Off Bulk Aged Loose Tobacco Query.

I had to give up my smoking about 5 years ago and have a mass of aged loose tobacco that I know I'll have trouble shifting simply because it is in large jars, the weights being 750g, 500g and 400g mostly. The tins would be no problem. Unfortunately most of the loose is in the larger 750g jars...

    Picking on Brits a Bit

What I meant was it was wasted money for the couple getting married. Yes of course the folk in the wedding business made their money but the couple who lash out $30k certainly didn't get value for money if they divorce 5 years down the line which was my point. As an aside, it always humours...

It does when you take into account the divorce rate. 8.3 million divorces in the US since year 2000. Apparently there are roughly 230 marriages every hour in the US and 86 divorces. That's a lot of $ wasted on wedding ceremonies then you take into account the costs of the divorce. Jay.

    Picking on Brits a Bit

I read a few pages from a diary of one of my many 'cousins' that settled in Utah back in the 1800's and there is mention of four brothers making adobe bricks to build their first house. I'm all for heritage and all that but I can only imagine what those early adobe houses looked like. I doubt if...

So if your let's say grandfather left you the totally unique house that he built with his own blood, sweat and money, you wouldn't feel a certain amount of pride in living in it yourself, and with a view to passing it on to one of your offspring? *Serious question. Jay.

What Are You Listening To? - December, 2024

Quite a change of pace for me and my long suffering neighbours. Here we have the Philadelphia Orchestra putting on a great show of Bach spread over 2 discs. Delightful. Jay.

I'm very familiar with most of it.....but only by sticking my hand up the vent to pull the rest of it out  Turkey livers make a splendid pate, I made tons of the stuff. Also their eggs make great omelettes though the yolks are rather pale. I used to collect the eggs at the turkey farm...

    Picking on Brits a Bit

Thankfully we don't have many earthquakes in these parts rather like most of the US. California is the only earthquake hotspot I believe. I read the excellent Simon Winchester book 'A Crack In The Edge Of The World: America And The Great California Earthquake Of 1906' and that made me very...

And of course when another child was born a bit more house was tagged onto the main building if space allowed. They were the days eh  Jay.

Well Horace Cardy & family lived at either Backhouse Farm, Blackhouse Lane or Blackhouse Farm, Backhouse lane, Little Cornard. A gorgeous range of really old mediaeval cruck barns & cottage. Must be worth millions now. They owned many acres around L/C going back generations. Small world. Jay.

Likewise. Built cheap and built quick. I bought a brick built house in Great Cornard in 1989 that was a mere 2 years old. Freezing cold, draughty, thin walls and ill fitting doors & windows. I couldn't wait to sell it. Jay.

There's wooden houses then there's wooden houses, all are not made equal. The crooked houses below are in the village of Lavenham where I used to live and were built late 1300's. The other is in America built in the 21st century. Jay puffy

What are You Watching? [2024] Please Rate 1-5

Not watched a film in a while until last night. Brimstone And Treacle is a very dark and deeply disturbing drama by well known playwright Dennis Potter. So disturbing I almost stopped watching half way through but gritted my teeth and watched to the end. Very well written and acted but I can...

    Picking on Brits a Bit

Here you go Michael, it's all in here. One striking aspect of houses in America is the flimsy quality of even the most expensive ones. Houses are built literally like a house of cards. Weak beams, plywood, flimsy insulation, flimsy siding, and roofing that either blows off in high winds or just...

    Picking on Brits a Bit

I once worked on a turkey farm in Suffolk and dispatched between 800 and 3,000 birds a day. I also gutted & butchered many of those I dispatched. I'm genuinely shocked that no one knew a bird only had the one orifice . Perhaps the poop occasionally found on eggs was a hint? Jay.

Actually chickens like all other birds have only the one orifice, called the vent where everything is expelled! Perhaps Scottish chickens evolved differently from those in the rest of the world? Jay.

    McRib Is Back!!!

I've never had nor seen a McRib so had a quick look on Wiki. I seem to recall something very similar sold over here in supermarkets in the 1980's. They were frozen and if I recall came in boxes of four. I liked them served with beans (Heinz of course) and chips (French fries). They were really...

What Are You Listening To? - December, 2024

I just took these. Not ideal as I'm in the process of a sitting room refurb and things are a bit higgly piggly. Also not very good with this camera/phone thing. The above 2 are most of my jazz. The below pic is a few trays of other albums. I have 8 drawers each holds 39 I think. Then I have...
