    Calabash Cups

Found a few places that will turn a briar bowl for me, which will be great as I have seen @georged suggest the gourd/briar combo. However, if anyone has any leads on reasonably priced meerschaum inserts, I am still looking, and will be for a while. Ebay isn't showing any options for me, maybe...

    Calabash Cups

I have been watching for a couple of weeks, but nothing has come up. Do you have any advice for search terms? I have been using "meerschaum" "meerschaum bowl" "calabash bowl"

    Calabash Cups

Appreciate that, but they are out of the 37.5 size that I need.

    Calabash Cups

Tried the silver scratch test, and it indicated block meerschaum. I guess that answers one of my questions; however, does anyone have any leads on meerschaum bowls or know anyone who could turn a briar bowl?

    Calabash Cups

Does anyone have a source for reasonably priced Meerschaum/Briar cups for calabash pipes? Scouring through older threads, I found J.H Lowe, but they are out of size 38.5, and Pimo seems not to carry inserts anymore. Also, I always thought that these "Austrian" calabashes were high quality...

    The Ten Minute Stem Restore.

That's a beautiful pipe! Do you have any advice on how not to round over the edges?

    Wood Soap ?

Great to see an honest seller. Why anyone would admit to such a treatment is beyond me.

    Affordable Meerschaum

Thank you! I fell into the "Too much hearsay turns into the gospel and phobias among pipe smokers." - Well said!!!

    Affordable Meerschaum

Thank you. I only ask because of all the contradicting information that I have read about meers. Will follow your advice and go with a light sanding for the bowl and regular stem cleaning.

    Affordable Meerschaum

Not to hijack the thread, but I am interested in hearing from people suggesting meer estates. I have a few estate meers that I am interested in smoking, but their beautiful coloration due to years of someone else's moisture leaves me uneasy. If I pick up a particularly nasty briar, I tend to do...

    Is this a real Kaywoodie?

Thank you, gentlemen, I learned more than I expected!

    Is this a real Kaywoodie?

Impulse buy, the seller listed as "used" and has a no return policy. Oh well, maybe it will end up as a decent smoker. If not, no big deal.

    Is this a real Kaywoodie?

Found a similar stummel to stem situation.

    Is this a real Kaywoodie?

Thank you, will do tomorrow. Have you ever seen a stem not follow the lines of the shank on a kaywoodie before by any chance?

    Is this a real Kaywoodie?

Yes, something is way off for sure. I think its a goner anways, I tried to photo the inside but it looks like a crack goes all the way through.

    Is this a real Kaywoodie?

Thank you! I mean the stem is a screw in, and seems to line up at least. The hole/crack makes me uneasy... maybe they didn't stamp their marking on it because its defective?

    Is this a real Kaywoodie?

Hello gentlemen! I recently acquired a Kaywoodie that I thought was interesting. However, it seems to have 0 markings aside from the stem. While taking photos I noticed a gouge/crack, what do you guys think? Any help is appreciated!
