Found a few places that will turn a briar bowl for me, which will be great as I have seen @georged suggest the gourd/briar combo. Tried the silver scratch test, and it indicated block meerschaum. I guess that answers one of my questions; however, does anyone have any leads on meerschaum bowls or know anyone who could turn a briar bowl?- Krampus

Does anyone have a source for reasonably priced Meerschaum/Briar cups for calabash pipes? Scouring through older threads, I found J.H Lowe, but they are out of size 38.5, and Pimo seems not to carry inserts anymore. Also, I always thought that these "Austrian" calabashes were high quality...- Krampus

Thank you! I mean the stem is a screw in, and seems to line up at least. The hole/crack makes me uneasy... maybe they didn't stamp their marking on it because its defective? -
