What's the shortest smoke you allow yourself?

I'm of the philosophy that if I cannot enjoy a full bowl for the full amount of time, I will postpone the experience until that can happen. I like to have at least a 30 minute chunk of time to sit on the deck and enjoy the pipe experience, whereas 45 minutes is much nicer if possible. However...

When You Tell Your Doctor You Smoke a Pipe...

Best advice to the question asked, "When I tell my doctor, will it be reported to the government/my insurance provider? Will my insurance costs go up?" is this: Unless you are a mid to heavy regular smoker, multiple times a day, just don't even admit it to a doctor. I smoke a pipe/cigar on...

Holy Grail Find - Charatan "Countryman"

That's an interesting shape. Never seen that style before. Looks like it's comfortable to hold.

    Bamboo Pipe Tool

Such a clever idea! Wish I had this idea before clearing out all the bamboo in the backyard. Now I'll know what to do with the next stalk that pops up.

    Orlik Golden Sliced

I will join in and say I always have a tin of the Golden Sliced on hand. I have introduced this lovely Virginia to my dad who is now a convert from strictly aromatics.

Pipe Rack is Full but Collection Not Complete (pics)

It appears to be time for a new home addition to support a growing collection!

    Pipe's Not Dead

Nice! I grew up on Forsyth in East Montana (affectionately known as 'West' Dakota), and spent most of my college years at Missoula.

    Back From Ashland

I saw the same Marx Bros. cast a few years ago in "Animal Crackers". They are hilarious! I'll be in Ashland in about a month to see some of those shows, including Rich III and Into the Woods. Always a great time in the Rogue valley.

    Pipe's Not Dead

Hey @Bulletsnbriars, I'm a good ol' (former) Montana boy myself. Good to know pipes are alive and well there. What part of Montana you from?

A Little More Dottle With Flake?

Oddly, I find that flake tobacco burns better and more thoroughly than loose tobacco. Most kinds of aromatics usually end up with plenty of dottle, which I figured was due to the higher moisture content.

I Didn't Have Cases So I Made This

Brilliant! This gives me some ideas. Thanks for sharing!

    Play Nice While I'm Away

@Phonomet - the OCP started producing musicals a number of yrs back. This year they are running Sondheim's Into the Woods. @Sablebrush52 - hope you enjoy! I'm going to be there the end of August. Let me know if there's any good spots for pipe smoking.

    Pipe Handedness

Well now there's an original question! I always light with my right, hold in my left. But my teeth on my left side seem to be skeejawed and can't grip the bit comfortably, so I only clench on the right. Funny how I never thought about it.

    Alcohol Cleaners?

+1 for Everclear or any generic 190 proof equivalent. It's so strong that it may be kept behind the counter.

3rd Annual Northwest Pipe Conference (Meet Up)

Are there any plans for a meetup in the Portland / Vancouver area again this yr? I couldn't make the one last year but would love a chance to get together with the locals.

    The Benefits of Slow Smoking

Very well said. It's easy enough to say, "slow down", but the reasoning is essential to understand.
