    Pipe Tobacco Tub Insert

Thank you for the "push the center of the lid" tip.

    Pipe Tobacco Tub Insert

Thank you for all your answers. I not talking about a plastic top. I'm talking about a paper insert that lies on top of the tobacco. My thinking was that the paper kept the air inside from drying out the tobacco because the more you use the more air space there would be, thus giving it more room...

    Pipe Tobacco Tub Insert

Thank you for telling me your thoughts. You've been right about so many other things I'm sure you're right about thit. I wasn't sure and it's a pain getting it out as well as messy. I think I'll just throw it away.

    Pipe Tobacco Tub Insert

When I get a tub of pipe tobacco, such as Carter Hall or Prince Albert, there is an insert that covers the tobacco. My thinking has been that the insert keeps the tobacco from drying out. Thinking this, after I finish filling a bowl, I put the insert back in, then close the top. The thinking...

    Puffing a Pipe

Not on purpose. I made that mistake when I went from cigarettes to the pipe and haven't done it again intentionally since.

    Puffing a Pipe

That should read "David's videos on his YouTube channel St. David's pipes.

    Puffing a Pipe

I was lucky in that sense, but not as lucky as those that actually had mentors to help them get started.

    Puffing a Pipe

You are right, I didn't really explain it as well as I should. To me the breath method is an almost passive way to smoke a pipe. You simply breath and that does all the work. The way I was asking about is more intentional, and instead of just simply breathing, you "snort" or "sniff" air through...

    Puffing a Pipe

Thank you for your comment. I mainly do that as well, per your post on slow smoking. I was just wondering if anyone else used this "third" method.

    Puffing a Pipe

When I first started to smoke a pipe over 10 years ago, I didn't have a mentor and relied on online forums and videos. All this time I had figured out that there were two ways to puff a pipe, sipping it by applying a little pressure on the pipe drawing the smoke in and the passive breath method...

Old Codger All Day Smoking with One Pipe

Good idea. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll need to get me some with my next order.

Old Codger All Day Smoking with One Pipe

Thank you. I'll give that a try.

Old Codger All Day Smoking with One Pipe

You are right about it not holding water. I guess I should have said damp instead of wet. Mine aren't actually "wet" but the inside of the bowl is a little damp.

Old Codger All Day Smoking with One Pipe

While trying to figure out my issue with my pipe getting hot, I realized one of my issues was that I wasn't letting the pipe dry out enough between smokes. One good reason to have multiple pipes. Realizing this greatly improved my issue with my pipe getting hot like it was. Realizing this...

On Smoking Slowly and the Benefits...

You've made a great point. I've been smoking a pipe for about 20 years now, but that was only one bowl a day with my coffee int he morning before work. When I retired two years ago I had much more time to smoke my pipe. In the last two years my smoking technique, packing and enjoyment of the...

    Four Aces Red by Republic

I have I was curious why you say to tamp it down hard? I've read where others, referring to other tobaccos say the same thing. I was under the impression that one shouldn't tamp down hard when filling a bowl because it will be difficult to smoke and will burn hot. I'm sure you're correct in...

Smoking a Pipe First Thing in the Morning

Being an x-cigarette smoker, I was accustomed to having a nicotine hit first thing in the morning. I know there are other and better ways to get your nicotine fix, but for me, nothing beats that slow relaxed feeling I get from a pipe. Might sound odd to want to start your day that way, but since...

    All Day Tobacco

When I was working the only bowl, I had was with my morning coffee. After I retired two years ago, I now smoke all day. I don't have a pipe in my mouth 24/7 but am now able to have a bowl throughout the day if I want. Retirement rules.

    All Day Tobacco

I agree with a tobacco that's fairly mild and doesn't take much attention to smoke. For right now it's Carter Hall.
