    I Finally Smoked Mixture 79

I tried it for the first time recently and found that I really like M 79. I dig the strange melange of flavors - too many for me to pick them all out, but I definitely get cocoa, root beer, and mint among others. It's sort of like a codger burley with Lakeland overtones. And I don't find it to...

What Cigar Are You Smoking? 2025

Smoking a little cheapie Garcia y Vega cigarillo with the candela wrapper. I know it barely counts as a cigar, but it smokes easy and tastes pretty good!

    Server Issues?

Indeed - they were married until his death in 1911.

    Server Issues?

T That's Mahler, what's he got to do with it?

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

Coniston in the new (old) Thermofilter dublin. I'm waiting for the lentils that I just put together to cook down so we can eat them with leftover lamb roast from yesterday. Sipping some rosé.

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

I'm smoking this new-to-me Thermofilter dublin that I recently purchased off of ebay. I'm happy with my purchase! The pipe has beautiful straight grain all around the bowl, and it smokes quite well, very open even with a Medico filter installed.

Jima Is It Worth the Price?

I think it's pretty cool looking! But how does it smoke? Does it take some sort of filter?

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

I just opened up a tin of F&T Cut Virginia Plug from 2013. I had received it in trade from a member of another forum that I follow. The tin was well-sealed and made a little whoosh when popped. Fragrance from the tin was a lovely figgy breadiness. Upon folding back the liner I found two...

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

I'm working on the first flake from this just opened tin of F&T Cut Virginia Plug from 2013. In the Medico egg. Man, is this stuff ever tasty!! And it smokes like a dream right out of the tin!

Ruminations on the Good Dr. Grabow Filter Pipe

I have a number of Grabows, some new (Royalton, Golden Duke, Hillcrest) and some old (Berwyck, Commodore, Starfire), and they all look and smoke GREAT.

    EU Burley Blends

Oh, that's a bummer, didn't know that. I wonder if it's marketed under a different name in the EU.

    Turning down the nicotine dial

Maybe you could try smoking those high nic blends in a Magic Inch pipe. They dilute the smoke by allowing some additional air in through the stem.

In Praise of Classic Grocery Store Blends

I wonder what the drugstore/codger equivalents were in France and Italy back in the day, and if they're still available now.

    EU Burley Blends

You might look for some Wessex Burley Slices. I've not tried it but I've seen it recommended often among burlyphiles. And I believe the HH line of MacBaren will continue to be available in Europe, so the burley flake would be a must.

    Comparing Virginia Flakes

My suggestions: GH Glengarry Flake Sillem's Mayor 1814 Flake PS LNF (with some age on it)

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

Absolutely loving a bowl of Sillem's Mayor 1814 Flake in a MM Washington cob with the Rob Roy bowl. On the back porch during a thunderstorm with a Firestone DBA. 😄

    Famous Historical Pipe Smokers

Right?! Crowley was a lot of things, not many them good. But he was an avid mountaineer, which I presume explains the awesome coat!

    What’s Happening To Me?

I only started with pipe smoking a few years ago, but ever since then I've been drawn to the poker shape. I have three in my collection, which numbers only around 30 pipes in total. For me there's something about pokers (and devil anses) that aligns with the Americana nostalgia part of the pipe...

    Meatloaf!

My two favorite meatloaf recipes are my Grandma's Ham loaf, made with ground ham and pork, and Paul Prudhomme's Cajun meatloaf, which is served with a delicious brown gravy. Heavenly!!
