    Dunhill

Well, they called Alfred Dunhills White Spot, so it kinda still Dunhill haha. Besides that the quality is the same, the shapes and forms are the same. Comoy, Charatan, GBD still exist as well, even Barling I think, but these are not the same pipes that were made in the family/pre transition/...

    Dunhill

Despite all the criticism about Dunhill, which I voiced here as well, one thing I realised recently, Dunhill is one of the few modern day pipe makers, that make classic pipe shapes in all sizes. I have problems to find an elegant classic pipe nowadays. In the past there were Barling, Charatan...

When Did The Trend Go From Small To Large Pipes?

Interesting, I will take a look. Does Chacom and Peterson make smaller pipes as well? I am interested in the Peterson Aran line, but could find anything below group size 4. I also would be currious if there are english pipe makers, besides Dunhill, as well, that make such pipes.

When Did The Trend Go From Small To Large Pipes?

Yep, unfortunatelly thats the trend. Not only with pipes. Same goes for wristwatches for example.

When Did The Trend Go From Small To Large Pipes?

I will have to disagree regarding the availability of small sizes, small pipes (group size 1-3) are 10- 15 % of all pipes offered I would say. And mostly this are not small and slick elegant pipes, but small chunky ones. I would say (unfortunatelly) only Dunhill offers nowadays elegant small...

When Did The Trend Go From Small To Large Pipes?

If you take a look at the specs of the most new pipes offered nowadays, they are mostly group size 4, or even 5. Nose warmers are small, but they are chunky. By small pipes I mean the likes of Dunhill group size 1,2,3 pipes in classical shapes. I am trying to find now a small classic billiard...

When Did The Trend Go From Small To Large Pipes?

I read the article about Charatan on pipe pedia recently, where it was stated that the Frederic era Charatan pipes were only group size 1 and 2. So I assume during that time everyone prefered small pipes. When did the trend swing to larger pipes? And why?

    German Pipes: Some Interesting Images

    German Pipes: Some Interesting Images

    German Pipes: Some Interesting Images

I have a big interest in pipes from Germany, pre WW1 and WW1, and I dont mean the traditional German hunter pipes. Recently I stumbled upon this photo of the Prussian/German Crown Prince. He holds a small pipe, that has a metal ring, or (less likely) an army mount. I would be very curious to...

    Dunhill

The opposite to Dunhill were Frederic and Rueben Charatan, who it seems to me, had a passion for pipes. Another good example is Giancarlo Guidi.

    Dunhill

Yes, the man did sell everything that was bringing money.

    Dunhill

Fair enough, but what if you are given the choice between two products from the same price segment?
  16. C

    Dunhill

Buying competitors brands, copying of other makers unpatented inventions and slightly changing and patenting them. Besides that for A. Dunhill it was never about making/loving pipes, but only about money. And there are many opposite examples of high end pipe makers.

    Dunhill

I own two Dunhills estate pipes in a mint condition One is group 4 straight billiard from 2013. The other same shape, but a group 3 from 2001 Payed 270 (group 4 was in like new condition) and 160 dollar respectively. I like their esthetic and they seem to be good smokers, but they smoke...

The article about Castello on Pipedia got me interested in the early Castello pipes. https://pipedia.org/wiki/Castello There its stated that the first Castello pipes made by Scotti were small pipes of Searock finish. A picture of an early pipe is attached there as well. Where can I find more...

Is Rustication An Iconic Future Of Italian Pipes?

So many interesting thoughts and insights! Of course italian pipe makers have also an wide variety of smooth parts on offer, but I do associate rustication with italian pipes. I also noticed that in the photos of the Ser Jacopo catalog of 1995/96, that were posted on the Ser Jacopo Italia...
