    Aging tobacco and refrigerators

Refrigerators are for your stacks of cash, not tobacco. Oh, and you can put vegetables and things in there too.

    Please Pass This On

This again? Right wing whacko taking advantage of the interwebs to make a scene about nothing.

    Peterson & MacBaren Recommendations

MacBaren 1 lb. Bags - Safe For Long Term?

Fnord, there are several places to get ahold of Mylar bags. I use these guys: Discount Mylar Bags. Their prices are reasonable and they also carry the heat sealer. This is the one that I purchased, and it works perfectly: Heat Sealer. You may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere if you look...

    Best Methods For Tobacco Drying

I'm a nuker as well, when needed. Like Andy said, 10 seconds will usually do it, let it sit for a couple minutes and you have a perfect moisture level.

Best Choice for a Tobacco Pouch

I splurged and bought a very nice Erik Stokkebye "man purse" at one of the shows this year. It's a great bag, but I still do find myself looking over my shoulder for strange stares when I carry it. Honestly, I usually bring one pipe with me when I am mobile. I have a nice simple leather pouch...

    Thoughts?

Not my style, but very interesting. Just goes to show by all of the previous comments, taste is subjective.

    A Great Set of Racks!

Those are some fine looking racks. Never thought I would say that to another man. 8O Always debated having matching racks made, as everything I have is an eclectic mix of old Decatur racks of different sizes and shapes. I decided that the eclectic look works though, and I appreciate the history.

MacBaren 1 lb. Bags - Safe For Long Term?

They are not Mylar for sure, just a heavy duty plastic. I use Mylar to cellar everything now, did away with the jars about a year ago. I will likely transfer them to Mylar and heat seal them to be safe.

MacBaren 1 lb. Bags - Safe For Long Term?

Thanks, Jim. Not so much looking for aging, but certainly longer term storage and freshness.

MacBaren 1 lb. Bags - Safe For Long Term?

I recently bought a couple of 1 lb. bags of MacBaren blends. I'm curious if anyone has experience with them for long term storage. They are sealed air tight, and seem to be a rather heavy material. Thoughts? Should I transfer, or leave them alone?

How big should a pipe tobacco jar be?

I still keep a tobacco jar on my desk with my "daily" blend in it, whatever that may be. I think for those that rotate through many blends, it's not a practical solution. However, if you have a favorite that is your go-to blend, it is still practical, IMO. The older jars by Decatur and the...

How do You Break Apart Kake

Interesting process. I'll have to give that a try. I tend to slice a cake up, thin, then cube it. I prefer the ease of loading the cubes, it burns slower and longer and you get more intensity in flavor, IMO. Only downside is, it's pain in the arse to cut it up in any quantity. I have debated...

    Storing Tobacco - Vacuum Storage

I would suspect that if you really wanted to try and remove oxygen from the bag, the oxygen absorbers available from most mylar distributors would be the way to go. Then you can use the heavy duty mylar, not have to worry about vacuum sealing and remove the primary catalyst to aging or oxidation.

    Mac Baren Vanilla Residue

I don't like goopy aros like 1Q... but several of the blends I smoke have some sort of light top note... as do MANY tobaccos for that matter. Telling someone to rethink the smoking thing because they like flavors that compliment their tobacco is silly, and certainly no way to build our ranks...

Where do you smoke your pipe?

In my house whenever I want. I usually keep it limited to my office, but with the layout of the apartment being pretty open, it doesn't matter. Have a patio as well, and I will often move myself out there. I admit I don't smoke my pipe a whole lot in public. Not because I'm ashamed, but it's...

Johnny Walker Double Black - A New, Favorite Blended Scotch

Double Black is a favorite of mine. Black is my go-to, but I will buy a bottle of the double when the mood strikes. It also seems to be my friends gift of choice for me. No complaints there.

Why don't aromatics make cake on my briar?

If you are insistent upon keeping it an aro pipe, here is what I would suggest. When you smoke other tobaccos, that generate a nice white ash upon dumping the pipe, keep that ash. When you are done with a bowl of tobacco in this pipe, use your Czech tool to scoop some of that ash into the bowl...

    What Tobacco Did Bing Smoke?

There always seems to be confusion about Crooner. It was not a Runowski creation. I suspect we will never really know whether the Crooner story is authentic. We can only take C&D at their word I suppose. Jim is right on with Hayward Mixture. I have seen copies of a letter that he sent ordering...
