***What Are You Smoking, May 2021?***

Purple Cow in an old cob I can't identify. I jammed a custom Boswell stem on the cob that clearly seemed to be the wrong size but I made it work. Might be the last bowl for that cob but the Cow is pretty good.

Haunted Bookshop - Love Or Hate...

I've always liked it, as I do most Runowski burley blends (I'm a burleyphile). It's a little 'unrefined', dry, and to some a little strong, but I like it as a sort of codger blend. It's easy to punch into a cob and light up, burns easy, and doesn't really require any attention, which I...

    4Noggins.com

In recent months, I've had the same issue with them (sitting on an order without shipping for sometimes a week or more). In the past I've never had these problems with them. It's like they are selling stock they don't have but expect to receive soon, rather than saying they're sold out until...

    Granger on Sale

I haven't had the Match Edgeworth. Ready Rubbed I think is slightly more 'flavored' I think, for lack of a better word, but necessarily sweeter. If puffed very slowly, I think Granger is a tad sweeter. I haven't had Ready Rubbed in a long time though, so just trying to go by memory.

    molasses -- definitely

What Am I Not Getting About Virginias?

It's not that you are 'not getting' something. Perhaps at least for now you simply don't like them, so don't force anything on yourself. Occasionally try a VA-based blend if you're looking for something new to try, and you may one day find you like them. I used to despise the slightest...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2021?***

Sipping on some Granger now. I often forget I have it, even though the tub sits under the chair on my back porch lol. It always makes me wonder why I don't smoke it more. I guess because I always pick something from my jars. Anyway -- good dog Granger, good dog!

    What's Your Favorite Codger Blend?

That's perhaps the most concise, and best, description of Granger I've ever heard.

Cornell & Diehl Purple Cow Review

Well I like Country Lawyer and Billy Budd, so I believe I'll give Purple Cow a try, especially given that it's a Bob Runowski blend. I've known of it for years, I guess I never tried it (or even looked into it) because of the name. I just ordered a tin. Thank you for the review!

***What Are You Smoking, May 2021?***

Finally cracked an old can of Elegant Emu from '06. It's a pleasant smoke, nothing more, nothing less

One Blend in One Pipe for One Week

Honestly I would probably go with a tub of Granger, especially if we're looking at desert island as a survival situation. Easy to light, I'd probably be smoking bowl after bowl as it's my only pleasure, and afterwards, the big tin can serve as a water carrier or something to gather my nuts and...

    "American" Style English Blend Recommendations?

I suggest Old Joe Krantz Red Label. Basically it's OJK with latakia and some cavendish. I think it definitely fits the description of an American blend. The lat is not too heavy handed, and between that and the added cavendish, it smoothes the perique a bit. Other than that, it's a...

Best Way to Smoke Old Joe Krantz?

Not trying to be a wise guy here: the ease of burning through a bowl of OJK to me means just load a second bowl. I love easy burning blends, and that's just an example of a good "fire and forget" blend. No point in trying to outsmart a blend that smokes the way it does, IMHO.

The Jury Has Reached a Decision

I simply classify those as good but hard as f*ck to keep lit unless you go through a lot of prep. I've been leaning towards easy smokes.

Whatever keeps the interest up -- I'm all for it!

***What Are You Smoking, April 2021?***

My longest-running staple: Old Joe Krantz. Next up will be the Red Label OJK.

What Kind of Pipe Smoker are You?

I just smoke pipes -- nondescript ones -- and couldn't offer a deep understanding of the components of the tobaccos I like if you held a gun to my head. I also like bourbon, and likewise couldn't give you an in-depth analysis of the qualities of the bourbons I like. I'll comment on...

Thanks for reminding me I have some of that in my cellar! Heading down now :p

***What Are You Smoking, April 2021?***

Picayune in a cob. Still have a few ounces jarred, and one tin and one of the larger tubs still unopened. After that's gone, Bayou Night is still the best replacement (for me) I've found.
