What Is An "American" Blend, Exactly?

Thanks for all the replies. I believe I will consider all blend descriptions as essentially useless ;) However, if one mentions English I'll at least make the assumption that it has latakia, which is decidedly not from England :). Except when the reference is to how they are cased, in which...

    David Bowie has Died

I'm pretty sure Keith can't die -- at least none of the usual causes have been able to touch him. I remember a comic years ago saying "After a nuclear holocaust, the only living things left on Earth will be rats, cockroaches, and Keith Richards"

What Makes A Bigger Difference? Where It Is Grown or How It Is Cured?

Is there a forum you recommend, for starting out? I realize we're past growing season at this point I would think.

***What Are You Smoking, Sept. 2020?

Billy Budd in a MM gent with boswell custom bit. Really liking this stuff (first time).

What Makes A Bigger Difference? Where It Is Grown or How It Is Cured?

I'm intrigued. I'd want to try the simplest possible burley. I don't have much land here, and I'm not sure what a fire cure entails.

What Is An "American" Blend, Exactly?

Yes I can see calling those 'American blends', but what I meant is when I see the blend-type on tobaccoreviews dot com, they seem to only use 'American' with blends that are primarily burley, with latakia.

What Is An "American" Blend, Exactly?

Well then I guess I like American blends, and will call them so :)

What Makes A Bigger Difference? Where It Is Grown or How It Is Cured?

There's Semois grown in the US? Do you know any blends it's used in?

What Is An "American" Blend, Exactly?

The reason I ask, is recently I've been posting how I've begun to like latakia again, but only in burley-based blends (Bow Legged Bear and Billy Budd for example). On tobaccoreviews, I often see blends referred to as 'American', and they seem to be along the lines of codger burley blends with...

    Corncob Conundrum

I didn't care for any of the other BriarWorks blends either. Country Lawyer was the exception. Plus hey, free small mason jar!

    English Never Grows Old

Well that's another for the list down the road then, thank you!

    English Never Grows Old

The Billy Budd arrived and you are quite right. No need to experiment any further (though I'm sure I'll try Tuggle Hall down the road). Bow Legged Bear, Billy Budd, and Old Joe Krantz Red Label are my three lat blends now. The OJK Red is a very nice light latakia blend.

***What Are You Smoking, Sept. 2020?

I should be replying regarding the smoke or those awesome looking ribs, but actually I just looked up and started playing some Buddaheads -- damn they're right up my alley! Thx!

    English Never Grows Old

I have Billy Budd ordered. Thanks for the tip on Tuggle Hall!

    Indifferent to Grousemoor

I agree...it's been a while since I got my hands on some, but Grousemoor is very distinctly it's own thing. I consider it to be in a category of one. It's one of those things where you can't say "oh, they are out of Grousemoor, I'll get this other one that's similar to it".

***What Are You Smoking, Sept. 2020?

Bow Legged Bear in a MM Pot O Gold. I'm not sure yet, but I might just buy a pound of this. I'll have to wait until my Billy Budd arrives. Having a sort of battle of the strong burley-lat titans before I decide.

    English Never Grows Old

I will say that since I'm a burleyphile, the blends with latakia I like most these days are actually burley based, which seems decidedly "un-English." For example Bow Legged Bear, Old Joe Krantz Red Label. I've been meaning to give Billy Budd a try. The more 'refined' English blends don't...

    Corncob Conundrum

Well then, you should try Country Lawyer. Just smoked a bowl today, and it's excellent in a cob :)

Sail Yellow The Budweiser Of Blends

I like the big 1 pound cake you can buy it in -- a couple strategic slices and you can jam almost almost all of it in a single mason jar. What are the other blends you are referring to? Pegasus was one I considered to have similar qualities, but in an effort to make my cellar deeper rather...

As long as you didn't use the moisture ring, there was no sacrilege ;)
