Big Ben Pipe Question - Meerschaum Bowl

Hi - I've always liked those Big Ben pipes, briar with a meerschaum bowl insert, like a small calabash. Does anyone know if the meerschaum used in these pipes is block, or pressed? Thanks!

    Dump the Goodie Bag?

I am impressed that any company would be so generous. Whether you appreciate the GIFT or not, it was a GIFT and it was fun! I enjoyed opening my goodie bag, and I very much appreciate the gesture, whether I like the tobacco or not.

How Many of You Smoke Indoors?

Indoors - aromatics and Maltese Falcon (my wife tolerates the room note of the Falcon). Outdoors - English/Balkan blends, or as my wife calls them, stinky tobacco.

Thinking about Meerschaum. What should I know?

I am one of those pipe smokers who only smoke Meerschaums. I do have several that get kmocked around without any problems. Others, I do take special care of. Perhaps I am more of a "conscious smoker" because of this. Just my 2 cents :-)

Is There a Thing as Too Many Pipes?

The short answer is "no" -- unless you, yourself, decide differently. For me, I've had more than 200 pipes pass through my collection since 1969, most of them Meerschaums. Now, I've kept about 25, and smoke about half of them regularly - more Baki's than any other. Some might say that 25 was...

Pondering a Pipeworks & Wilke TAD, suggestions?

I suggest you call Carole and tell her what your likes are, and get her recommendations. By the way, I usually don't smoke aromatics, but I DO enjoy #191!

Thinking about Meerschaum. What should I know?

Buying a meerschaum? There are many, many dealers in the US who sell them. One certainly does not have to order one from Turkey! My recommendation from my own experience is: if you can afford a Baki, get one! Sold by a very reputable dealer, Deniz (located in Florida). Baki pipes are truly...

    I. Bekler Meerschaum Pipes

Ismet Bekler was a prolific and popular carver. I own several of his pipes, fine smokers and some interesting carvings. I do like his work. Google him to find out more. http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/ismet-bekler

    Aromatics

I usually stick to English/Balkan blends, but to please my wife in the winter (windows closed) I began exploring aromatics. I highly recommend the blends from Pipeworks and Wilke, and there are SO many others that are high quality - like Hearth and Home, Peretti's, Uhle's, Steve Books' House of...

    Altinok Meerchaums...??

My own experiences with Altinok have been positive, but I haven't ordered from them recently. I was always pleased with the quality of the meerschaum, and the customer service. 5 or 10 years ago, shipping speed was never a problem. Today, it might be a different story. Baki pipes? I have five...

    Where to Buy a Meerschaum?

Smokingpipes.com often has some terrific deals on estate meers, as well as IMP Meerschaums, which are generally excellent. If your budget allows, pipes carved by F. Baki are, in my opinion, worth the coin - http://bestmeerschaums.homestead.com/bakipipes.html Altinok is also a good source for...
