John Sinclair Ltd. of Newcastle-on-Tyne (Antiquarian Nicotiana Brittanica Vol.18

Check out Wordpress, Troy. Still free if I recall, unless of course you want to have a custom domain, etc. But, I find the platform the most user friendly out there, and it's pretty powerful to be honest.

    Bad smoking pipes

Pipe I made, years ago, was always a dud. Has never tasted right, no matter what went into it. I suspect a donkey pissed on the briar burl early in it's life.

    Cigarettes are putrid!

Back when I was in HS, a friend of mine went to Jamaica with her family. She brought me back a carton of these. Tasty cigarette as I recall. Very, very different than our commercially available smokes here in the states. I wonder if I could find them anywhere now, other than Jamaica of course.

The 2015 Esoterica Sales Fraud Incident

Not aimed at you, DMC. More of a general jab to the masses.

The 2015 Esoterica Sales Fraud Incident

Get the rope. Let's hang the guy. What? We still don't have all the information on exactly what happened? Bah, pesky little details.

Cork to tap pipe on - what kind?

I had a champagne cork that had a larger than normal rounded crown portion to it. I cut off the thin lower section, and the top crown now sits in the ashtray. It's got enough substance that I didn't need to glue it to the ashtray. Makes cleaning easier. I also like a standard cork just laid on...

    January 13, 2016 - Smoke a Pipe With Nate

I'm glad all the smoke blowing around here isn't JUST pipe related.

Prince Albert vs Carter Hall: 2016 Deathmatch

I have yet to try the Carter Hall match blend from P&C. Chatham Manor I think. I suspect it will be better quality tobacco than what they put in Carter Hall. Might make converts out of a few of us. Oh yeah, don't think I voted... Carter Hall would be my choice.

The 2015 Esoterica Sales Fraud Incident

Yeah, the whole damn situation sucks. It sucks that he offered up a bunch of tobacco, collected money and then disappeared. Too many bags... maybe the guy miscounted. The simple fact is that NO ONE knows what is going on with this guys life, health, family, etc. People are getting their money...

    Cigarettes are putrid!

I still do Lucky Strikes from time to time. They are sort of a novelty now. When I was 17 or so, my boss at the jewelry store that I worked at smoked Lucky's. I would bum then from him once in awhile, and got a taste for them. They were always a great smoke, IMO. Sometime in the last 15 years...

    Aromatic Haters Top 5 Aromatics

The biggest issue in my mind is how the descriptors have come to be used. We have seen through many of the posts here that what some might consider an aromatic, many would never have labeled that way. It would be nice to have some authority in the industry actually make a classification system...

Does The Newest Version of Royal Yacht Age Well?

RY is good stuff. Who cares how it ages. A tin shouldn't be neglected for that long anyway.

That's crazy talk. Things like that will get you in trouble.

Meh, I enjoy the pipe tobacco lottery more anyways...

All good choices, but I will be interested to see your thoughts on this one. Next time you place an order, buy some Wessex Burley Slices. Personally, I find it the better between the two.

    Revisiting Blends

Interesting question. Although I am a Burley guy, HB was never been a favorite for me. That being said, I found even just a month was sufficient to take it from harsh and rough, to smoother and smoke-able. Beyond that, I'm not sure. I guess there must be some sort of finite time on the melding...

    Dunhill Bing 4110

They do. The only real difference between the Sav Roma and the Dunhill/Sav Bing is the length of the shank and the pipe overall. The Roma is a bit shy on overall length in relation to the standard Bing pipe, be it a Merchant Services or custom jobs.

    Dunhill Bing 4110

I've got two of them, Stan. They are a great little pipe, and grabbed my attention for the same reason. Plus, you can't beat the damn price!
