Any Older Guys Remember This from their Youth?

yep. there is relatively little fallout from nuclear fission bombs. Which is why people can start living there almost immediately. Weapons and reactors not only use different amounts, but different grades of isotopic materials. And different elements altogether in most cases. Which is why the...

Any Older Guys Remember This from their Youth?

Yea there's totally no one living in Hiroshima or Nagasaki right now.

    Question on an Ashton pipe.

Apparently there were a couple years in the mid-90s where there was no stamping either.

    MClelland Cellars

You are missing basic reading comprehension. Nowhere did anyone ask for affirmation. I'm asking you to not be a pretentious dick, and yet with every post you continue to do it. Let's see if being more straightforward helps.

    MClelland Cellars

Right. But you didn't answer my question: Is making comments like "you can buy them at the premium, but I wouldn't touch it above retail?" helpful or encouraging or "applauding"? I certainly don't see it that way. And of course you wouldn't buy it at a premium, you have pounds of the stuff...

    MClelland Cellars

You are missing the point amigo. Everyone's tastes are different? yes or no? IF yes, then your opinion matters relatively little with regards to someone else's taste. IF that person hasn't tried McClelland, then it should be up to them to decide whether it is super magical or not. This is an...

    MClelland Cellars

Yep, as someone who has smoked a lot of McClelland, you can say that. And having smoked multiple Esoterica blends I can agree with you about Esoterica. But I'm not going to sit here and tell people who haven't smoked Esoterica how I won't touch the stuff if it's above retail because I already...

    MClelland Cellars

At which point I will understand if someone new to the hobby wants to try some and has to pay extra to get it. Instead of going on about how I wouldn't touch it if it was "anything above retail" *My* point is that not all of have tried it. So get out of here with the pretentiousness of having...

    MClelland Cellars

Ridiculed or not, when we started smoking, it was out of production and talked about like it was amazing. So if we wanted to try it, we HAD to pay premium. Nothing is wrong with C&D per say, but I think most would agree it is a poor substitute for something like Christmas Cheer or Frog Morton.

    MClelland Cellars

Excuse us for wanting to try some of the most reputable tobacco in history. Guess I'll go buy some C&D since it is more readily available.

Some of us have to pay the premium to even get to try them. What happens when you don't start smoking till after they stopped production.

    Question on an Ashton pipe.

I know the pipe was purchased as an estate pipe in 1996. It doesn't have a number marking after the "Made in England". It is an Old Church, not sure if he was making those in his first year.

    Question on an Ashton pipe.

Are there any Ashton experts out there? I have a pipe that I believe is a 1983 (first year) Ashton. Looking for confirmation.

Any B. Barling experts out there?

    Right on, thank you!

Any B. Barling experts out there?

@sablebrush52 here are some more photos. Anything further you can glean would be greatly appreciated. My grandfather had it labeled as "Presentation" in his notes. If that helps. He got it as an estate in 1991. Markings are "B.BARLING & SONS" and "1142" near the stem.

Any B. Barling experts out there?

I will add more pictures tomorrow but there isn't much more to say regarding the nomenclature on the pipe. The notecard that my grandfather filled out says it was a "Presentation" model but it doesn't note that on the pipe itself so I don't know how accurate or where he got that info from...

Any B. Barling experts out there?

I am trying to date a B. Barling pipe I own and I'm having a little trouble. The only markings are: "B.BARLING & SONS" in straight, block writing on the shank. "1142" right next to the stem connection. It has the Crossed Barling logo on the stem. From Pipedia: "...according to Tad Gage, the...

Looking For A Really Good Pipe Lighter

It was a joke, friend. Also I didn't say if I judged them positively or negatively. So anything critical is coming from you. Food for thought.

Looking For A Really Good Pipe Lighter

I immediately judge anyone lighting their pipe with a Bic. Especially if the pipe is nice.
