What Is So Great About Castellos

I just picked up a 55 "castello" 4k from Italy. With shipping it was more than $100 less than SP has a 55 "castello" 2k listed for. Ordered it late in the afternoon on Thursday and it arrived this morning.

    Castello 55

Interesting - I purchased the pipe from Bollito, which apparently should have a "BO" stamp and not "B".

    Castello 55

So my new 55 arrived. In looking at the stamping, on the bottom of the pipe it is stamped B45. What does this signify? I will some more photos when I have time to take some decent shots. Thanks jojoc

    Risk of ghosting a pipe

By English blends I guess I really am meaning genre. I have no intention of limiting a specific pipe to a specific tobacco. I am trying to figure out classes of blends and which ones to not cross mix in the same pipe. It is sounding like aros and Lats are the two primary items to keep in...

    Risk of ghosting a pipe

Thanks Embers - sounds like I need to have at lest three sets of pipes - one for aros, one for English, and one for Virginia blends. Also means I likely need to get more Virginia blends, as I think I only have one May have to go with - England made for English blends, Italian made for...

    Risk of ghosting a pipe

I do smoke the aros in different pipes than the English blends. Really my question is do I need to keep the Virginian in separate pipes from the English? Sounds like no problem about English adn English/Oriental in the same pipe. I am a little confused by the lat comment as a number of my...

    Risk of ghosting a pipe

I understand the wisdom of not smoking aromatics and non-aros in the same pipe. What about mixing various non-aros? Is there a problem with smoking English blends and Virginians in the same pipe? Can you smoke both pure English and English/Orientals? How separate do you need to be? I'm not...

    Castello Pipe Shapes

Paul - at 2 to 4 times the entry price of a P grade JU, "equal to" would be a bit of a disappointment. It should land early next week. I'm looking forward to trying it out. It is a "Castello" line KKKK

    Castello Pipe Shapes

Any thoughts on the 71 bent pot shape? There seems to be a lot of love for the 55 here, but .... Maybe the shape does not photograph well, but the proportions seem all out of whack to me. There is a lot of talk about how well the 55 smokes. Does it smoke that much better than other...

    Close Up Photos

I played with some existing photos I have and using the crop feature I was able to get ok results. I will need to play with the lighting some. Although the overall photo quality was good, I seem to end up with glare in just the wrong spot. I appreciate everyone's input jojoc

    Recommendations for Christening this Castello?

Nice looking pipe. I'm considering a Castello for my next, and the Lovat is a shape I am considering. I have a relatively small collection of both pipes and tobacco. I mostly smoke English blends and light aros. I am not very OCC and could never remember what I had smoked in what pipe, but...

    Close Up Photos

I have slowly been able to learn and figure out how to get a decent photo of a pipe. It takes me some time, but I can do it. However, I have yet to figure out how to get a good close up shot of the bowl stamping. I see that some are able to post crystal clear close ups of stamping. How do...

Mail Call - what should I try first

I realize for many, this is not a big order, but for me it is. This represents my largest tobacco order to date. I only smoke a couple times a week, so it will take me a long time to work through this much tobacco. Although I have smoked cigars and pipes for 20 years, most of that time I was...

    Castello Pipe Shapes

I'm thinking that a Castello may be my next acquisition. I'm trying to wrap my pea brain around some of the various lines and K rating system. I have a few noob to Castello questions: It is my understanding that the K rating (fro smooth pipes) is related to the quality of the briar, and that...
