Gawith Hoggart Heavy Hitters and Rope Baccy

what is the difference between the Brown Irish X and the Brown Bogie?

Gawith Hoggart Heavy Hitters and Rope Baccy

I have not smoked any of them. Not because I don't want to try them, but because, at least in the US, they are not easy to obtain.

Where Do I Return This To?

I am not trying to be an ass, so hopefully it will not come across that way. Maybe the lesson here is, if you are not fully satisfied when you get the pipe, send it back. If you are not satisfied in any way, you can always return a pipe to SP as long as you have not smoked it (30 day return...

Where Do I Return This To?

I would not worry too much. Peterson still sells more pipes than any other pipe maker (maybe second place?). we are talking about a product that is still largely hand made with an organic material at the core. It is not unreasonable to expect some level of product failure at the volume they...

    An Unexpected Surprise

Interesting. I only smoke a couple times a week, and usually its not planned in advance, so setting my tobacco out for an extended period of time to dry does not really work for me. This has resulted in often smoking too wet of tobacco. I may have to look into this is.

    Help Identify Two Peterson Pipes

Peterson stamping is problematic at best. In the hundred plus years, there was lots of overlap and inconsistent stamping. I would guess that all three words (London, Made, England) were three separate stamps. Made In London England was used. Just guessing, that maybe the person stamped...

    Help Identify Two Peterson Pipes

they look right to me. I'd guess pre-1940 based on the type of "p" used in the Peterson. I believe they stopped using the London production in about 1960. Nice find!

    GBD (French) Pipe Dating Help

@ssjones and @sablebrush52 Gentleman - I saw in some other posts that you have some 1950-1970s GBD catalogs. I'm curious when the earliest mention of the "Speciale Standard" is based on your records. I found an old ebay listing of a 1979 catalog that mentions it, so i know this line was...

    GBD (French) Pipe Dating Help

Any information out there on dating beyond the per-merger dates. When did they change from script to block letters for the model names? Seems like there is a complete void from the 30s to the 80's as far as dating these.

Any Opinions on the Peterson XL 02 P-Lip

My first "real Pipe" was a XL02. Still one of the pipes I go to on a regular basis. I like it. Mine is a red Killarney from the '90s. A bit unusual in that it is drilled as a System pipe.

    GBD (French) Pipe Dating Help

My understanding is that French production was closed down and moved to London as part of or shortly after the post-Cadogan merger. There Does not seem to be a lot written on GBD's in general, and even less on the French production lines. I did find a comment in a post from GL Pease that he...

    GBD (French) Pipe Dating Help

Well @npod triggered my PAD with his 10o years of the Prince Pipe post. I don't have a prince in my collection, so I did a little hunting and found this GBD Prince at a price point I thought, what the heck .... So, a couple questions: 1. Any idea on the date? From my limited knowledge of...

Video: How a Billiard is Made

Very interesting to watch. Thank you! Maybe I shouldn't put to much judgement based on a time lapse/edited video, but it almost seemed like the stem was more work and craftsmanship than the bowl. I mean no disrespect, as I was very impressed with the skill in making the bowl. I've done enough...

100 Years Of The Prince Pipe

I'm a smooth finish guy, but there is just something about these (especially the dunhill) that is very appealing. Love sing your collection, and your photography is top notch. Thank you for sharing ...... I think. I now have an urge to seek out an old prince shape pipe.

    New Pete 305 Standard System

Is this from a "standard" system?

    New Pete 305 Standard System

True, but neither does the "standard" system pipes. I guess maybe there are very few "true" system pipes. :ROFLMAO:

    New Pete 305 Standard System

Nice looking pipe. Enjoy! I picked up a "System Spigot" 303 a while back. It took a bit to break in, but is now smoking great, and I love the look of the spigot pipes.

    New Pete 305 Standard System

It is not a "system" pipe without the p-lip. P-lip is part of the system. That aside, you likely can find a replacement stem farily easily as the system pipes are military mount. For me, I don't personally notice any real difference between a standard bit and p-lip when I smoke.
