    Tobacco Experiments: Stoved Virginia

Yes my latest order included, bright Virginia, latakia, Kentucky, perique, and basma. I prefer wholeleaftobacco.com myself as I think the quality is better than my previous orders from leafonly. The 1/4 lb option is nice though. I have played with stoving/steaming and toasting burley too. It...

    Tobacco Experiments: Stoved Virginia

Crock pot can work too, but tins in the oven is really easy and will give same results basically.

    Tobacco Experiments: Stoved Virginia

I set the oven for 200-220. The tobacco inside won't go above boiling point inside the tin as it will be fully hydrated the entire time. So it's basically steaming inside the tin. You could set the oven higher and it won't go more than boiling point, but its not necessary. If you do this in...

    Tobacco Experiments: Stoved Virginia

Well.... Pic 1 - Red Virginia in this state is very bready, hay and grassy(not as much hay and grass compared to a bright virginia) not much sweetness, but a bowl will stove itself and get a little sweeter at the end, definitely no fruity notes. This can be used to add to a blend like an English...

    Tobacco Experiments: Stoved Virginia

I have a passion for smoking pipe, but as with many things I love in life, I not only enjoy It, but also like to create it. I have been refining my techniques and experimenting with whole leaf tobacco purchased from wholeleaftobacco.com which is a great site for many different high quality...

    About Falcon Moisture Rings

I just bend a piece of pipe cleaner into a U shape and drop it in there so the open part of the U is where the stem hole is. No restricted draw and works great. I don't even bother to make it fit snug or anything. Just drop it in there it will soak up the moisture, plus it's easy to get out. It...

    My Latest Estate Finds

It says 128 on the pipe. I found an old listing of one on smoking pipes.com : Danish Estates Kriswill Saga Smooth (128) | Buy Danish Estates Tobacco Pipes at Smokingpipes - https://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/estate/denmark/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=216271

    My Latest Estate Finds

Haha yes, hence why I have taken the habit of selling them off. Helps keep me out of the negatives and I do enjoy fixing and restoring old pipes. I have around 35 pipes and about 20 are my keepers, so I think I'm doing well to keep the numbers down when I compare to some other pipers.

    My Latest Estate Finds

It's the first freehands I have bought, they have very large bowls, which usually isn't my preference, but they smoke very well. The Harcourt is a "D" grade, which apparently is the highest grade they produced( or so I have read online) the two on the bottom are excellent as well, and I do like...

Quarantine Study Project - Growing Tobacco

Inkbird temperature controllers are available on eBay and they even have humidity controllers. But yes you can use jars. I think zip lock freezer bags are easier as you can empty them if you need to let the leaves air out because they are too moist. It's a but trickier to have to make sure...

Quarantine Study Project - Growing Tobacco

Aside from the usual Virginia, burley and orientals. I like to grow one called Monte Calme Brun, a hybrid cigar type that tastes amazing for pipe. As for curing and processing. I suggest making a curing chamber. It can be as easy as putting your tobacco in ziplocks by a heat source or more...

What Blend Do You Think Everyone Should Try But That You Will Never Smoke Again?

St Bruno Condor Irish flake This is easy for me as I smoke mostly whole leaf and do my own processing and blending. I enjoyed these blends and can see how they can we a widely appreciated easy going smoke, but I would rather try many other offerings if I was in a position to buy some tins or...

Boy Oh Boy Pipe Tobacco The Affordable Luxury

Oh yes I've also grown my own for a few years. Last year I was travelling so I couldn't. But this year I'll be back at It! I like wholeleaftobacco.com for ordering leaf as they have consistent quality. But there are some other sites too. Totalleafsupply.com is another one that has some...

Boy Oh Boy Pipe Tobacco The Affordable Luxury

Lol speak for yourself! In Canada for even OTC pipe tobacco it's around 30$ USD per 50G. I buy whole leaf and do processing and blending myself at home to keep costs down. I also enjoy that sort of experimentation anyway so it's not that big of a deal for me. With how much I smoke it would be...

What Was Your Best Bowl This Week?

Maybe some of my whole leaf home made stoved black red Virginia. Kinda been saving it as I'm running low. Dark fruity tangy and a little hint of that oily stoviness. Can't remember what pipe. Maybe my clay tavern which I really am liking my Virginias in.

    In The Name of Science

Well I know the wax is penetrating. When I did my application I put a layer of wax on the warm pipe and then held it to the heat. The pipe soaked up the wax completely and returned to a dull look after 20 seconds of heat. I repeated this about 5 times and it kept soaking it up. It started to...
