Greetings! Living in the Berkshires since 1989 (from NJ originally). First Pittsfield, now Sheffield. Welcome to the site!

    Meerschaum Curious

Every meerschaum pipe is unique. I’d recommend going with established expert carvers like Baki, Bekler, Tekin. Also, I’ve had very good and great pipes sold by Ural, CAO, Altinok, IMP and Meerqueen. After many years of collecting and smoking meerschaum pipes, I have to say that pipes crafted...

    Peretti Cans

I bought a can of Cambridge Flake from Pipestud, nine or ten years old. Contents were fine and perfectly smokable. BTW, great tobacco.

    R.I.P. Steven Books

In my opinion, his tobacco blends were awesome!

    R.I.P. Steven Books

Heartfelt condolences to all who knew him. He was very generous with his knowledge and sharing his passion for tobacco and pipes. His blends were outstanding.

    Master Blender Steven Books

I found "the real deal" to be clearly superior to Rich's.

    Master Blender Steven Books

I used to smoke his blends all the time. Not inexpensive, but in my opinion, definitely worth it. I've sent emails and messages via their Facebook page - no response.

House of Calabash, Still In Business?

I sent an email to that address a week ago, no response. I'll try the phone number later today. Thanks!

Anyone been in touch recently with House of Calabash - Steven Books? I know the store was closed some time ago.

    Magazine Subscriptions?

I have always liked magazines, and still do. Premier Guitar, Guitar Player, Acoustic Guitar, Vintage Guitar, Inc., Fast Company, Wired, Popular Science - I think that's it for now.

    Peretti No. 8 Slices

I love most everything Peretti blends. Worth a try, I suggest.

    Any old ASP members here

I was a regular participant. I especially enjoyed the conversations with Sailorman Jack! I even bought a few of the ASP Meeschaums!

    All Briars, Meerschaum, or Cobs?

For me, all meerschaums. I love the coloring process, and I love how they smoke. I've been exclusively a meerschaum smoker for more than 20 years.

Fred Bass Status = Broken Pipe

I had a long time correspondence with Fred, who was very excited about the book he was working on, which would have been a wonderful gift to the meerschaum fans -- as he called us "Devotees of the White Goddess." Heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.

For those familiar with Steve Books' "Grandfather's Own" (House of Calabash)

Vorvick - Peretti's Yuletide Blend is only available around December, just as Thanksgiving Day, another favorite, is only available around November.

For those familiar with Steve Books' "Grandfather's Own" (House of Calabash)

I was a big fan of every blend of Mr. Books that I ever tried, but ordering (and price) became a problem for me. However, in answer to your question - I thought the seasonal blend Yuletide from Peretti's was kind of a magical aromatic. I look forward to more opinions.

    Baki Pipes

Deniz Ural is the gentleman selling Baki pipes. I don't know how to contact Mr. Baki directly. In my opinion, meerschaums crafted by Mr. Baki are superior pipes, and Deniz is a good guy who has much experience in the meerschaum trade.
