Good to have you back, Tim. You have been missed... here and elsewhere.

Official FREE Pay It Forward Thread

Ash, you lucky dog on that Heinrichs Dark Strong, lol. Edit: And I come to find out Ash is Tim... good to have you back man. Going to dig through my stuff. Just unpacked everything from the move and got the cellar organized. I'm sure I have something to throw in the mix.

    Hate this tobacco panic

Quite a few things out of stock... not sure why, but I'm not thinking it's the end of the world. I'll just check again in a few days.

What is your (current) favorite pipe shape?

    Long shanked Billiards.

Favorite Aromatic Blends for the Fall Season?

I admit, as of late, I have preferred tobacco with a bit of aromatic to them. Here is my primary issue... strength. So, I have started mixing C&D Cube Cut with aros that I want to try, usually 50/50, or 75/25 (cube cut dominant). Gives me the strength I like, but with a bit of flavor and aroma...

    Life

Amazing how in one keystroke people can go from empathy to attack mode. Be kind to everyone, always... even the guy who posted something you don't like. You never know what struggles people have endured or are enduring, regardless of how finely honed your armchair psychiatry skills are.

How can I be loosing my taste for Latakia? Has anyone else had this experience?

I started out hating it, then falling in love with it. Few years ago, I lost the taste for it, and actually found that it irritated my tongue a bit. Now, I appreciate it in very small, condiment proportions in a blend, but that's where it ends.

What Did Your Fathers and Grandfathers Smoke?

Gramps didn't smoke a pipe, but my Uncle did. He had plenty of cans of Half & Half around the workshop, so I assume that was part of his consumption at some point. 1Q or BCA was his regular when I was growing up though. He had a jar of BCA next to his chair, always with a slice of apple in it...

Death was nice enough to send me a generous sample of this. Smoking some now. Good stuff. Strong, actually pretty smooth and I get some nice cigar notes from it. A keeper and it would probably be fund to blend with.

    FDA rules announced

I still get a kick out of thinking back to when SCHIP passed and the massive tax increase was proposed on RYO, cigars and pipe tobacco. I remember people defending the RYO industry for changing their packaging to call it "pipe tobacco" to avoid the tax. "They are just trying to survive" people...

    FDA rules announced

Amazing... both of these are all geared toward cigars. Where is the lobbying and representation of the pipe tobacco community in any of this???? The IPCPR is supposed to represent cigar and pipe retailers, but both of their suggested bills doesn't mention pipe tobacco once. The complacency is...

    FDA rules announced

FYI, the cigarrights.org only references protecting the "cigar industry" and makes no mention of pipe tobacco. You can edit your letter that you are sending either via email or print to include that. Here is another resource: http://www.ipcprlegislative.org/take-action/ Sad, if you search for...

This Beast Swallowed Nearly a Shot of 200 Proof!

You will find some good info on cleaning and maintaining a Meer here: https://rebornpipes.com/2012/08/01/cleaning-up-estate-meerschaums-fred-bass/ As noted, retort and salt and alcohol are a no-no. Your best bet is to swab the bowl with alcohol and pipe cleaners. Dumping alcohol into the bowl...

    FDA rules announced

Hate to break to it everyone, but the IPCPR has been lobbying for years, especially since the SCHIP act passed changing the federal taxes on cigars and pipe tobacco. http://www.ipcpr.org/. I have been signing petitions and writing my reps since that happened, but I recall even then many pipe...

The new FDA rules have put me out of business.

Agree 100% with Dan... way, way, way too soon to give up.

I gotta get a hold of some of this and try it. I'm a Burley guy, so this seems like it would be right in my wheelhouse.

    FDA rules announced

As was already stated, this is a simple example of a government agency overreaching. I have stated before, I have no issue with some level of taxation, as it is essential to keep the wheels turning, but this has evolved into a full fledged cash grab under the guise of public health. Let's be...

Words and Phrases You’ve Come to Hate

I'm going to second MSO on the use of the word "like" and how it irritates the snot out of me. It has become the ultimate connector word in any sentence uttered by millennials also known as the "touched" generation. It has become so pervasive that that I even catch older people--including myself...
