    Virginia Kentucky Flake

60% red virginia 40% dark fired kentucky Pressed the leaf in alternate layers. Overnight in the noodle press. Wrapped in tin foil this morning and put in the oven at around 200°C for about 3-4 hours. I tried a bowl this morning unstoved and it was nice, I'll see what the stoving has done maybe...

    DIY Blending

I'm up in Vancouver Canada and can grow no problem up here so you should be able to as well. I do have to start my seeds ahead of time in end of February or March. Whole leaf is lots of fun to take another step of processing/ creating if you desire. The tobacco will already be flue/fire/air...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2020?***

Sure is! I been doing some similar concoctions with stoved red virginia and Kentucky, but been craving something a little more stout lately so I just went for it with the 100% dark fired blend.

    DIY Blending

I only smoke my own blends. I buy from wholeleaftobacco and do alot of stoving(virginia and Kentucky) and pressing into cakes. I also like to case and top with bourbon, rum and tonka beans. I also enjoy experimenting and am really refining my blends(an accurate scale is needed for consistent...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2020?***

Whole leaf blend. 50% dark stoved Kentucky. Cased with maple syrup, molasses and black spiced rum prior to stoving. 50% unstoved Kentucky(to give back some kick) Cut into ribbon, mixed and sprayed with tonka bean soaked in bourbon, then pressed into a cake. Sweet and smooth from the stoved...

    Chacom Pipes

Got an old chacom grand match billiard. Big wide bowl, smokes great. It has a stinger, which I usually remove(can't seem to get this one off) but it actually smokes fine with it in. It's the barrel type stinger with holes on the side, so I can still stick a pipe cleaner through without taking a...

Pipe Lost Color After Heating It?

I've found if you apply too much heat and dont reapply the wax, it will soak deeper in to the meerschaum. Just smoke it as other members have suggested, but you could also apply some more wax to that portion of the pipe and heat it gently again with your blow dryer or just apply the wax while...

    What Are Meers For?

I've done that before, but didn't notice if it coloured faster. That's interesting. When I clean now, I wet the pipe cleaner a bit to wipe the bowl so I want it to dry before my next smoke but maybe I'll give that a try sometime.

How Many Bowls Do You Smoke?

Always 3( breakfast lunch dinner) sometimes 4. But when I'm out doing my farm deliveries once a week, it's all day.

***What Are You Smoking, October 2020?***

Been tending to keep it simple these days. Whole leaf blend. 60% stoved red virginia 40% Kentucky Cut in a rough sort of shag/ribbon. Through my Altinay lattice meerschaum billiard.

    What Are Meers For?

This is one of the reasons meers have a different flavour profile than cobs or briar. It's best to keep no cake on a meer. And that means no cake imparting a flavour to your smoke. Which may or may not be a good thing, depending on the blend and your preferences. I've bought estate meers where...

    Va/Per Perique Percentage

I've done lots of blending with perique too and have done everything up to 40% !! Ha that was a strong one. It was paired with a black stoved Virginia and topped with tonka bourbon, so it was mellowed out by those. Other posters have described it quite well. I like perique quite a bit so 10% is...

    Looking For Nostalgic Room Note

Clan aromatic really hits that old time pipey and pleasant room note. The taste is similar and nice. It burns hot and is very mild(in nicotine), which is why I've only ever had one pouch(the wife picked it up after a suggestion from the "tobacconist") ?

    What Are Meers For?

Smoke anything you like! Meers give a different flavour and you may like what it does to certain blends. There are no rules when it comes to meers. I like the way it brightens and sweetens an English blend. It might offer too much clarity to a straight burley or Kentucky blend, but just try it...

Do All Mass Market Cigarettes Use Burley Tobacco?

Canadian cigarettes are 100% flu cured virginia. That's all we grow here so that's all we get. We covet those fancy american smokes. It actually put me off from straight virginia pipe tobacco(I don't smoke cigs anymore) for a while cause it tasted to cigarettey to me, and burley tastes...

    How Do You Stay Fit?

I'm a small scale veggie farmer. So that's a healthy dose of excersise during the growing season. I'm not much one for working out, I'd rather be getting stuff done and working out at the same time, another reason why I love the farming lifestyle. Winter months can get a little lazy but, it...

    What About Hand Feel?

Well the thing that matters most is the smoking characteristics of a pipe. But yes the feel matters too. I prefer smooth pipes myself. Small enough to wrap my hand around, but I have pretty big hands so that means most pipes including large Danish freehands. But I have all types of pipes(smooth...

    Sources of Blending Tobaccos

I'm from canada so I buy from wholeleaftobacco to avoid canada's outrageous taxes on processed tobacco. Their Kentucky is amazing and a staple of my blends. Plenty of vitamin n. I prefer to stove it with some molasses or maple syrup and alcohol (spiced rum/bourbon) casing to smooth it out a bit...
