    A Progress Report

Hopefully you won’t have to have surgery, or feel like you have to have it. Having worked in the post surgical arena for many years I have seen that back surgeries do not always turn out well. They are a bit chancy. Physical therapy can work wonders often times, if one is willing to put in...

    Well Known Problem seeks Answer

Several seemed to have misunderstood my question. Not talking about the draw/ draft hole. Not talking about gurgling. Not going to discard a pipe over a simple problem. As georged points out in his thread, this problem is not unusual even among four-figure scandinavian pipes, among others.

    Well Known Problem seeks Answer

Thanks @georged. Perfect. This confirms my idea, only with a more appropriate bit. I know exactly what you mean by the danger of the bit "grabbing" the wood, so sanding it to remove the sharpness makes great sense. God bless this forum, as it were.

    Well Known Problem seeks Answer

When inserting a pipe cleaner, several of my pipes require a twist or two to get the pipe cleaner past the mortise all the way down to the bowl. No big deal at all. A couple of them require not only crimping the pipe cleaner at the end, but 7 or 8 attempts and some colorful language. It...

    MKELAW's Online Store is Closed…

I think I bought three pipes from him. Something no one else has commented on so far, but I think his website was outstanding. The photographs were always as sexy as they could be. It was easy to move around on the site. Not all websites are as fine as his was. Of course, ditto the other...

    A Match for Capstan Blue?

About 507C. Long ago, I bought it in quantity, jarred it in smaller increments, went through it slowly. I think when I finished it, it was 10 years old, and I was stunned at how well it had aged. personally I think it’s the best Virginia flake out there for the dollar. Really inexpensive.

    Aging and Pricing Thoughts

Steve Fallon, a.k.a. Pipestud, has been selling aged 100 gm tins of McClelland Christmas Cheer, for $100 and up, for many years. Translates to $28/ounce. Just one example of hundreds of similar, both on his website, this forum, and elsewhere. Crazy ? Well..... I only smoke one bowl of Va...

    A Sherry Evening

Every night after dinner I read and smoke. I sip amontillado sherry all the while, tiny sips every few minutes, which for me goes really well with tobacco, clears the palate and enhances the next puffs. I buy the stuff by the case. Used to be Sandemann, but that is now unavailable where I...

    Any Castello Comparable pipes?

I have 4 or 5 Don Carlos pipes, all estates, which have been noticeably superior smokers for me. Not better than my Castellos, but very good. They are thin on the market these days, not sure why. Certainly less $ than Castellos. Have also had good luck with Ser Jacopos.

    Watch City Va/Pers

Old dominion flake is outstanding. Really outstanding. I never smoke aromatics, but Nor’Easter is outstanding in an aromatic kind of way. It’s a great change up smoke. I’ve never smoked any other tobacco like it.

    Why Some Briar Gets Hot

It remains a mystery. I don't puff hard, or pack tight, and the bowls are typically at least 13/16 and often more, as I prefer larger bowls for a longer smoke. Only flakes. If these pipes were basket pipes then it would make more sense to me, but one was a GBD and one was a Charatan...

    Why Some Briar Gets Hot

o k I'm sure this has been discussed before, but since I don't live here on the web, I've not seen it. I've owned many pipes over the decades, and two of them, both estates, both reputable British marques, were really very hot to the hand when smoked. No, I'm not a fast puffer. I smoke va...
