    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

SG Best Brown Flake from 2006. In my opinion, this flake was as good as FVF and St. James Flake. I say was because i haven’t bought it since before the pandemic, and I sure hope GH hasn’t messed with it.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Rattray’s Old Gowrie from 2004. I love this one. And Marlin Flake. I bought my last batch of these blends (and Hal O’ The Wynd) in 2010 and sure hope the formulations haven’t changed since.

    S.T. Dupont Lighter Owners Club

I suppose I’m a member of the club: lighter and pen set. The lighter has lacquer panels with a nice, almost 3d, gold sparkle effect. But the fountain pen is my favorite.

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

I was carrying one of these today when I thought of this thread, and that I haven’t posted in a while. Therefore here are two by knifemaker Serge Panchenko. They are small and nonlocking, titanium scales and S35V (I think). These models are now made by different manufacturers at a much more...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

I love traditional slipjoints with modern flair, like screws instead of pins. Well done, dude.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Robert McConnell Scottish Flake from 2005. The seal was weaker than usual, making my heart skip a beat or two, but the tobacco was still in perfect aged condition. I don’t think this tin would have survived much longer. Still need to inspect the remaining ones...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

A tin of McConnell Scottish Cake from 2005. Nice bloom on it. I also have some Scottish Flake with the same date, for later. Will post pics.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Here is a tin of Escudo bought in 2003. The coin next to it is a Portuguese 20 Escudos coin, Escudo being the Portuguese currency before they joined the Euro. This is one of my favorite blends.

    Question on Peretti Paint Cans

I still have a few of those paint cans of Somerset Slice going on 20 years old, now. Last time I opened one, about a couple of years ago, everything was fine and dandy inside, and I have no reason to think they won't last quite a few more years. Then, the tobacco was inside a plastic bag, inside...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Today I opened one that I haven't smoked in many years. Over a decade, for sure. It is a tin of Rattray's Black Virginia from 2004. The tobacco is black and it smells like plump, sweet raisins. I'm surprised it shows no trace of sugar cristals. I don't remember how it tasted fresh, but this one...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

So many beauties in this thread. I haven't bought a pocket knife in many years, as my interests have veered towards other things and my collection is ample enough to have kept me entertained in my daily selections. Another one I like very much is this one by Jerry Halfrich, small and easily...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Anyone carrying something special for Halloween? This year I'll be away from home and won't be giving candy. But will be carrying something pretty and not scary: the Case/Tony Bose collaboration pocket knife in the Norfolk pattern with Mother of Pearl scales. Life is good.

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

I was a bit of a Spyderco fan boy for a long time. Used to work 10 minutes away from the factory outlet store and visited frequently. I bought this Para 2 in CTS-20CP and light grey scales there, the day they brought it out of the production line and into the store for the first time. It was...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Today, for something a little different, knives used for piping. From top to bottom: my plug knife (not the most adequate for the job, but that's what I'm using for now); my pipe reamer (just an ordinary clam knife); and my general use pipe tool (after great efforts to have it clean and nice for...

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Lately I've been toting this Spyderco Delica with green G10 covers, which would look great if not for all those holes for the pocket clip :(

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

I posted this one last week, but the post has been deleted, so here it goes again. Slipjoint from knife maker John Lloyd with micarta made from a mesh of copper wire and what looks like burlap. This week I've been carrying a different knife, but will post it here later.

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Kifemaker Tony Bose used to collaborate with Case to produce some very nice high quality slip joints. I got a few and today I'm carrying one of them. I think the pattern is called coffin:

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Villiger After Dinner. Don't know the date, but I would say it's recent. Quite alright for a change of pace from my usuals.

Show Us Your Knife (And Pipe)

Here's a little Spyderco Rookie. Light and unobtrusive, just the way I like it.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

I'm not sure when I bought this. It was before the pandemic, but after GH&Co reformulated it. Oh! How I miss the old Ennerdale...
