    Dark Twist Replacement

Interesting. It looks so similar I'm thinking it was made by Mac Baren?

    TAD Acquisitions 2025

So who picked up some HH Pure Va on that SP drop? I know you're lurking out there...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

    I love this stuff. Underrated.

    TAD Acquisitions 2025

How does the bag note of the LNF compare to the Va Slices? Thanks.

Help Finding (and Understanding) Dark Virginia Pipe Tobacco

If you can find it, Wessex Campaign Dark Flake will give you a clear sense of what dark (red) Virginia's taste like when dominant in a blend. Then compare that to something brighter like Orlik Golden Sliced or Peterson (formerly Dunhill) Flake, especially when fresh. (aged many years they can...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

In case anyone wonders what Three Nuns looked like when it was UK made: https://tinbids.com/auction/72545/ (No affiliation, by the way)

    Pipe Storage - Good Options?

Oh wow. I have to look into this.

    Pipe Storage - Good Options?

Has anyone here ever used one of these sunglass organizers for pipe storage? Curious about experience. Want something I can easily see what I have in a collection of many rare and unsmoked pieces.

What Labels Are Affected By MacBaren & Sutliff Demise

I've got to get my hands on some PS Luxury Navy Flake. As soon as it's back in stock I will order some to compare to 507C Va Slices.

What is the best Savinelli pipe?

Punto Oro sandblast are my favorites. I have a 105 slim billiard because I like smaller to medium size pipes.

    Dark Twist Replacement

Dark Twist and the other Mac Baren Roll cakes have a unique flavor. The only thing that may be close is Three Nuns which is apparently going to stay in production. Let's see how STG does with it. There is another hard to get tobacco called Special Curly by Peter Heinrichs that has a similar...

What Labels Are Affected By MacBaren & Sutliff Demise

Funny thing is I think 7 Seas was actually better than the Captain Black line. Yes, same genre but a touch higher quality.

    Must try G.L. Pease?

I haven't read through this whole thread but I sure hope someone mentioned Telegraph Hill. A nice soft ribbon cut VaPer.

What Labels Are Affected By MacBaren & Sutliff Demise

Amphora Virginia is very similar to Mac Baren's Virginia Flake and Virginia Number 1, both of which appear to be among the few Mac Baren blends that will survive. Has that lemony flavoring.

What Labels Are Affected By MacBaren & Sutliff Demise

The Amphora pouches were good stuff. People assume a pouch is crap but Mac Baren did a great job with those blends. High quality broken flake with minimal flavoring for the most part. And if you ever wanted to know what second-hand pipe smoke smelled like in the 1980's just try Full Aroma.

Pipe Tobacco Market - A Play in One Act

The table at a show idea has always interested me. Could sell my pipes there too if I'm no longer smoking. The only issue is it does not give you access to the Chinese buyers who drive up TinBids prices. The TinBids process is pretty great. Buyer pays shipping. The system creates a label for you...

Advice on Building Up the Cellar

You need to take time and sample as many different things as you can. Find what genre you like. Your taste will develop and change over time. I wouldn't commit too much to anything you are not sure you like no matter how much hype there is around the blend. It took me 3-4 years to really know...

Pipe Tobacco Market - A Play in One Act

A park bench. Two middle aged men seated. One sips coffee, the other scrolls his phone. Pipe Smoker: I wish you people would support the hobby and keep these legendary much loved blends in production. Tobacco Executive: Trust me, we would if the sales were higher. But too few people buy them...

    Just in from STG/MacBaren/Sutliff

I only learned this week that Georg Jensen pipes from Denmark was Per Jensen's father.

Brand new Peterson has a crack. What do I do?

This is fine and won't be a problem. That's just a nick from the drilling. I doubt it will expand unless you smoke the pipe really hot down there, which you shouldn't do anyway. I would keep it, and I doubt they would even take it back.
