    Learning to smoke Burleys

Now trying Solani Aged Burley Flake in my Savinelli Rome Pipe bought two days ago in..... Rome! Wow! Very musty, quite strong, peppery and yeah, it's great. Can't wait to smoke it just a couple more times before i write a proper review! ?

    Learning to smoke Burleys

Spot on. I had some tobacco a-ha moments last year (after a decade or so of slight interest) and am hooked now. But mostly into Virginia based blends so far. As a Burley beginner I consider everything just containing Burley a Burley. That's why Reiner is there... I'm going to pick a few tins...

    Learning to smoke Burleys

Solani ABF looks very interesting indeed. Great reviews. It's on my Burley list! ?

    Learning to smoke Burleys

HH Burley Flake was already on my radar so I will definitely try that one! ?

    Learning to smoke Burleys

I just want to share something that might be of use for those of you that think Burleys have too little or boring character. Until just recently I simply could not understand what good Burleys, dark fired or not, added to Virginia blends. They seemed to remove some of the great Virginia tastes...

Newer Pipe Smoker Wants Thick Clouds

"Big clouds" would probably quickly result in too much heat and rushing is a bad idea, but I have to add that it is perfectly possible to achieve a nice thick volume of smoke with most tobaccos at the right moisture level. So if you want that, don't give up!

    Pipe Rotation

Totallt agree. One pipe is one or maybe two smokes a day. One addition: Run a pipe cleaner through it after each smoke and it will probably stay great for many weeks.

    New Piper. Bitter, Ashy taste

I prefer most tobaccos just slightly dried from a fresh tin. Learn to smoke slowly without loosing the thickness of the smoke. When the smoke gets thinner you get more of that ashy taste. This requires a lot of practice at first, but will eventually become very easy. To perfect the smoke, rid...

    Trying to Find the Flavor

To have the best chances to feel the tastes, you need to get a few things right. 1. Do not smoke it hot. Too much heat will destroy the tastes really badly. This requires some technique when it comes to packing, lighting up and smoking. 2. Good moisture level. Try a freshly opened tinned...

    Dan Tobacco, Midnight Ride

I’m smoking this incredible English the forth time while writing this review. This time I decided to smoke this blend to confirm if this really is my favourite English so I do it with full concentration and in perfect summer conditions. The last time I smoked it was at a wet party last weekend...

    Pipe Shapes/Styles I "Should" Try/Experience

When I started clenching I realized that there are more to it than looks. These are the top characteristics I consider when searching for a new pipe. Bent pipes are more stable than straight ones although your teeth arrangement might enable stable straights as well. I love the looks of a...

    Online Pipe Quality

Great to hear that most of you have good experiences. I will have another try and watch out for anything that looks like bowl coating on the pictures.

    Online Pipe Quality

Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look at it!

    Online Pipe Quality

In my case it was a very rough interior with many cavities that the pipe cleaner got stuck in (hidden behind some kind of lacquer before the first smoke). Maybe an OK quality for really cheap pipes, but I had never seen anything like it in my $100-150 price range before so I was very surprised...

    Online Pipe Quality

Hi all! I bought a well reputed brand pipe (no high end but around $100) on the web once and had a pretty bad experience when it comes to quality. I returned it and got another pretty bad pipe back again. In a local store it is easy, of course, to inspect before buy, but online you really need...

    Samuel Gawith

I love these two, quite unique in character. Highly recommended! Kendal Cream Navy Flake St James is maybe not as unique, but probably the best of all vapers. Beware of 1792. It has a special taste, but I find it way too bitter. My Joker is Rattrays Old Gowrie. A great vaper to complement...

    Hot Pipes

I just recently opened a tin of Deluxe Navy Rolls and enjoyed the taste a lot. However, countrary to some advice here I think it was nearly a bit dry, so added 3 drops of water to the tin, which (after a couple of days) strengthened the taste and I think it cooled the smoke a little bit as well...

    Mouthpiece Types? Pros and Cons

I think a stem needs to be as thin as possible right behind the button in order to be very comfortable when clenching. Also, the button should not be so large that it touches the roof of the mouth. I have only bought a P-lip once, but for me that was just too large in all dimensions.

    Recommended Tobacco "Rotations"

Yep, I will probably settle with a few favourites in a couple of years or so but still have way too much to try out.. I'm trying a very systematic testing approach for the fun of it ?

    Recommended Tobacco "Rotations"

Very interesting, sounds I should try a couple of those!
