    Penthouse (GBD) 9438 Restoration

Wow. Really nice. I would have almost thought that stem was supposed to be brown. Cool pipe and nice work.

Recommendations for exceptional Virginia and Balkan tobacco

I'm with Chasing Embers and his selection and I second Spartan99's recommendation of Westminster Blend. Add 10 to Midnight t and Peterson Irish Oak to the English list and Erinmore Flake to the Virginias.

    Nice job, Al. Love it.

    A Couple Restoration Before/After Pics

Yeah! Great job again, Dave. I love seeing you take these especially horrible pipes and make them things of beauty. Inspiring.

    Pairing Tobacco with Drinks

Hey y'all. I'm interested in knowing what you like to pair your smokes with. You can be specific about brands and blends if you want (C&D Pirate's Kake with Founder's Breakfast Stout) or less specific (Virginias with hot tea). Doesn't have to be alcohol.

Instructional Video Announcement --- Tips, Tricks, Tools, & Techniques Revealed

Thank you for doing this, George. I have a feeling that this will inspire many people and save many an old pipe for years to come.

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

Thanks y'all. It was a fun project. I am happy with the way it turned out and a little jealous that I have to send it back. :(

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

Here's some pictures of the final product. These pics were taken in natural light about 6' from a window. In lower light it's darker, sort of emerald color with less contrast. Hope you like it Unkleyoda. Let me know if there is anything you want done differently.

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

Ha! No pressure there, Mike. LOL. I got some wax on it last night at about 1:00 AM and it looks pretty good. It's really more sheeny than shiny though so I am going to do a little light buffing and put another application or two on today. Hopefully I finish it up today and get some nice photos...

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

In my opinion, yes. i don't know if that would stand up to scientific scrutiny though. Glad to know it's not just me. No, i have never tried shellac before, how does that work?

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

Thank you. My strength is in my patience, sense of duty, and obsession with detail. My weakness is that I am slow. I really consider myself a hack at this, which is why working on someone else's baby makes me nervous. It's just a little hobby for me. Fortunately Unkleyoda has been really chill...

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

Love the "Inglorious" meme. The pics I'm posting are behind the progress, so I am actually farther along that the pics indicate. I'm super busy at work and am a slow poster. This is an interesting pipe. High quality briar as you can see. But it is hard to get it to "take" the green dye. Much...

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

I should state for the record that I am with Unkleyoda on this all the way. True, that grain is really nice, but it's not the only beautiful Peterson pipe in the world. I'll happily re-do another one for him and keep it "bright" but this is going to be very classy dyed green. What is more...

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

Agreed, Mike. If it were my pipe I'd have trouble not keeping this beautiful look. So purty. But green and shiny is what Unkleyoda wants, so green and shiny is what Unkleyoda will get.

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

Here are a couple pics of the pipe dyed black. After this sets for a couple days I wet sand the excess off to get that grain to pop.

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

Off with the old... There is some beautiful grain under that dark stain, and to be honest it would be really easy to chicken out at this point and just rewax it.

    Peterson Saint Patrick's Clone

A few weeks ago I posted this story ( http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/my-saint-patricks-day-pipe ) about my attempt at making a Saint Patrick's Day green dyed pipe. Well, shortly thereafter I was honored when forum member Unkleyoda messaged me and asked me if I would give the same...

    My Saint Patrick's Day Pipe

Thanks everyone! It's amazing what a little elbow grease will do for a cheap pipe. Kind of makes me what to experiment with some non-traditional colors. I'm thinking blue for the next one. Your compliments are kind.

5 Year Aged Peterson Irish Oak

I bought some 5 year aged Irish Oak a month or so ago and gave it a try yesterday and today. Yesterday I did not find it all that special but today I liked it a lot. (This happens with me a lot with new tobaccos actually.) This stuff must be higher in nicotine than I am used to because it gave...

    Growing My Own?

Thank you, guys. I know I have a lot to learn and will definitely look into the Fair Trade site. The Newhope Seed site looks great too.
