Since Everyone is Asking Questions Today.

I think straight grain makes more sense on an axehandle than on a pipe.

    Sous Vide - Gamechanger!

I had to google Traeger. It seems like an advanced grill. Correct me if I'm wrong. That'll be next then, I guess. I'll need a shed for that, and preferably a hotter climate.

    Sous Vide - Gamechanger!

The point is to slow cook the food in the bag at the optimal temperature. Depending on one's preferences that may be something like 57C for a steak, 48C for fish, 60C for lamb etc. Afterwards you nuke it on the grill, frying pan or in the oven for flavor and texture of the surface, or not at...

    Sous Vide - Gamechanger!

They all nailed it this time. My christmas gifts were all perfect. Guess my wife DOES listen to me after all. Anyway, one of them was a sous vide stick. I've used it twice so far, once on some steaks and once on - ehm, the front leg of a lamb, whatever you call it. Results were outstanding...

    Variations of the Same Shape

Yeah you're right. But mine IS a 9614. The bowl is more rounded than on the 9604.

    Variations of the Same Shape

I think the ones you name as 9604 are really 9614. I have one and the shaping is very much like the second one of yours, only mine is smooth and walnut brown with gorgeous flame grain. I do think they are handmade. Maybe not every step in the process, but the surface is a bit uneven and the...

    Peterson system Question

    Yes of course.

    Peterson system Question

I have two Peterson system pipes sans the p-lip, they have fishtail bits. They gurgle. During a two hour smoke I need to remove water from the stem like 10 times. One is old, one is new. One has a vulcanite stem, one has acrylic. They both gurgle, and that is my experience with them.

    St. Bruno Question

St Bruno is not soapy or floral at all. If your tastebuds aren't superhuman, whatever casings and toppings in it come off more as seasoning than actual sauce. That is to say that it tastes like tobacco, damn fine tobacco.

    Traffic

I also smoke when I drive and after discovering the world of podcasts I listen to interesting stuff as well. Driving has become such a pleasure now that sometimes I even catch myself going under the limit.

Short Smoke Breaks and Strong Tobacco

I do it on the rare occasions when I'm out drinking. Only then, and often I'll end up smoking cigarettes, like everyone else.

    Capstan & Tolkien

I'll chime in and say that Capstan Blue is my favorite blend. I smoke several other, but Capstan is the best. I've sampled numerous virginias and va/pers and Capstan Blue stands out. It's a topping or a casing that's different from everyone else's. Less fruity, less hay and citrus and more...

    Bottom of the Tin

Try cracking a new tin at that point. Then you can pack a bowl from the new tin and use the powder from the old tin as kindling.

    Flameproof / Noncombustible Blends?

Dark virginias and virginia cavendishes seem to be the worst. Marlin Flake and Dunhill Dark Flake are bad, but the worst I've had are Rattray's Dark Fragrant and Mac Baren's Club Blend. They don't burn. Not at all. The worst thing about it is that these noncombustibles give tongue bite, so you...

    Is Aftertaste A Thing?

Most blends I smoke have a pleasant aftertaste that lingers for a while. ATM I am laboring my way through a tin of Mac Baren's Virginia no 1. It has absolutely no aftertaste and I find that very disappointing.

    Thick vs Thin Chamber Wall

I think there is some confusion about what "a hot smoke" is. I certainly don't think it has anything to do with the temperature of the smoke coming out of the stem. When the bowl and the tobacco in the bowl overheat, some changes in flavor and PH will occur, as well as excessive moisture. I...

    Thick vs Thin Chamber Wall

Air is a bad conductor of heat. Therefore your thin walled pipe will receive more heat than it can get rid off, thus overheating. The larger mass of the thick walled pipe makes it more likely to reach an even in vs out balance of heat. In my experience, thin walled pipes can be fine smokers but...

    Peer Reviewed Tobacco Smoking Correlations

I only smoke because of the negative correlation between smoking and osteoarthritis. Now could you be so kind as to find something nice to say about the hearty cocktail of smoke, drink and too little sleep while avoiding exercise. Asking for a friend.

    Greed & Gluttony

The knights weren't chivalric to other people in real life. They exploited their tenants cruelly and made war constantly. Their private lives were filled with murder, rape, treason and corruption. Chivalry was a game they played with their peers in the higher rungs of society. The measure of...
