    New Criteria for my Pipes.

Bowl size and width has risen through the criteria as the years have rolled by. I struggle with big wide bowls and super free draws.

UK/EU Members - Tobacco Consignment Shop?

    Good advice. Thanks.

UK/EU Members - Tobacco Consignment Shop?

Ah, thanks. Just the answer I need. I hadn't thought about Barbers. I might give them a ring.

UK/EU Members - Tobacco Consignment Shop?

Hi all A question to our UK/EU members. Does anyone know of a pipe tobacco consignment shop in the UK or EU? I'm wanting to sell some of my cellared Germains/Eso/McClellands etc to fund a few things but have no idea who to contact. Larrysson's consignment shop has since closed down I think...

    UK Market Germain's Availability?

Interesting discussion here. I'm wondering if Germains themselves are aware/care that much of the product backordered for the UK market has for the last two years been exported? I presume our big taxes have historically protected the market from oversea buyers. From what I gather that changed...

    UK Market Germain's Availability?

Good to see you here northernpipeshed! I'm still missing T+P! I wonder what proportion of sales the UK market still makes for Germains. I presume a significantly dwindling market, relative to those overseas.

    Best Books on Tobacciana History?

Interesting suggestions. I shall see if I can track them down. James the first terrible both as a king and a speller.

    UK Market Germain's Availability?

That’s what I mean. SmokeKing now sold out and virtually all of mysmokingshop still out of stock...along with GQ, Turmeaus and Black Swann. Not seen Medium Flake, Brown Flake, 1820 Flake and RDF freely available in a long time.

    Best Books on Tobacciana History?

Please capitalize important words in titles. What are your favourites? Mine is undoubtedly the great Compton MacKenzie's Sublime Tobacco, as much for the way he marries personal anecdote with a level of detail that is, as he puts it, 'exhaustive without being exhausting'. On the other hand...

    UK Market Germain's Availability?

I don't suppose any of our UK forum members know anything about what's happened to Germains availability in the UK? I've chatted to a couple of shop owners and I realise stock is flowing out of the country to the US and China...but it's been a year now of pretty much blanket 'out of stock'...

Pipe Tobacco You Don’t Initially Like?

I don't know what it is in the stuff but I have tried and tried to find something redeemable in GL Pease JackKnife Plug and Triple Play. To me it's akin to snorting an ashtray. Or in the case of triple play, snorting an ashtray through a pepper grinder.

    Ready Rubbed VA's and Va/Pers

Germains Gold Leaf Ready Rubbed that we (used to) get over here in the UK. I'm told its our version of Eso Peacehaven but have never tried it to qualify. Very similar (identical?) to Germain's Medium Flake.

St Bruno Ready Rubbed, Your Thoughts?

So I hear. I'd have loved to have tried it. Funny how often ancient unopened tins of Sobranie, Capstan and Erinmore turn up but I've yet to come across an unopened tin of St Bruno...which says it all really. I also hear that Erinmore used to be way stronger...which I find hard to believe!

    Flakes Like Gawith

Yes I agree. At least a temporary solution I found was to blast away with some of the more heavy fetid ones. Afterward I really lost my capacity to detect that very faint perfume in virginia-based G&H unscented flakes like the Reunion Perique Flake, BCF and Brown Flake u/s I'm pretty...

    Bob's Chocolate Flake is Glorious

I genuinely despised the stuff when I first tried it, to the point of anger. Anger that I'd been suckered into buying the stuff by the words of pipe forum people. But like any perversion, it lingered in the mind as something unholy and decadent, which eventually drew me back. I totally adore...

    Essential VaPers

Eso Dunbar or Dorchester or Germains Royal Jersey Perique are quite a different, sweeter kind of VaPer. Definitely something to seek out as a point of contrast.

    Flakes Like Gawith

No, I've not found anything to have that same profile with the hint of Malawi that G&H u/s brown flake base has. Agree that it's fantastic too. I've never found it in offerings by euro producers like K&K and McB.

    Love at First Smoke?

Not a daily smoker, but immediate and sustained hits include: Germains Rich Dark Flake FVF Germains Special Latakia Flake Each seems to have something both singular and mercurial about it, so I never get bored.

St Bruno Ready Rubbed, Your Thoughts?

I love it. For years I never understood why it was considered a lakeland. No perfume or granny soap, just a rich musky smell. It's taken going back and trying all those degrees of lakeland flake to see that, of course its a lakeland. But it's pretty subtle. I have a couple of friends over...

    Dark Star

I imported my only tin of it waaayyy too early in my piping career. God I tried to get it to burn and foolishly gave up (either gave it away or chucked it). Since been gifted the McC bulk navy flake (2035 was it?), which to me at least has the same fire retardant consistency ...and it now has...
