    Cat's Eye

I think it was James Woods in 'Quitters Inc.' Heckuva good story. I like King most of the time - he had a period in the '90s when every book seemed the same, but his short stories are always superb. He's a great and unpretentious writer, even if his politics are messed up.

    World of Warcraft

The Wife and I played together, we each had a couple of 70s. We quit before the level cap went past that. I still miss it, tho. Bringing a death Knight up was the best playing experience I have ever had. For teh Hoooorde!!!

    Lord of the Rings

+1, bigvan! That's my sole gripe with the Jackson movies. Sam and Frodo were not friends, they were master and servant. Tolkien said that he based Sam on a batman (valet) he had during the Great War. Those scenes really slow down the movies, but I never got that feeling in the books. But the...

    My Review of Molto Dolce

Thanks to all for your kind words. I appreciate it! rcstan - I don't normally notice Vitamin N in the pipe, since I smoke cigarettes too. Maybe in a few weeks when I'm off the sticks I can pick up the difference. buster - I really like to mix leftovers into new combinations. Good stuff...

    My Review of Molto Dolce

My first review. Please be kind! My rusty High School Latin tells me that 'Molto Dolce' means 'very sweet' or 'exceptionally calm' - and this is an apt description of this fine tobacco. I received a 1.5 oz tin of Sutliff Private Stock Molto Dolce from Altadis as part of their free sample...

Smoking my pipe has become bittersweet

+1 to mjtannen! Some of my best friends are patrol cops, and I can see the monumental stress it places on body and home life. (Full disclosure: I work for The Man myself, but only as a very small cog in a huge machine.) God watch over the Watchmen, be they Military of Law Enforcement!

    Grow Your Own Tobacco?

Well, as I said, I tend to look on the dark side. Seeing the efforts of romanza10 and stephendownie makes me hopeful that it can be done!

Sample tin from Altadis arrives .....

Good luck, rcstan. I got Molto Dolce from them today, myself. Smells like heaven, just hope it isn't full of anti-freeze!

    Grow Your Own Tobacco?

Raising tobacco to sell is a he77uva a lot of work in the hot sun. I'll lie down and starve before I ever work in tobacco again. And aside from my personal bias, a few minutes thought will convince you that the idea is a nonstarter. It's all Burley round here. A few Virginia strains might...

Cleaning up an eBay pipe (w/pics)

I did the stem with Barkeeper's Friend (thanks to shaintiques) and rubbed hell out it. The briar I did with a quick application of BF and a fast wipe, just to cut the nastiness. I didn't know what Barkeeper's would do to wood, but was willing to risk a little. Most of it was just hard work...
