    Beard Smell

I only worry about the residual smoke in my beard on days I wear by big red suit. On those days I don't smoke until after I take the suit off and shower and wash the beard before I put it back on. I don't even wear cologne when in the suit because you can never tell when someone might have a...

    A Progress Report

The neurosurgeon I first started seeing in 1997 had me going through physical therapy for three years before he considered surgery on my lower back. It sounds like your niece is a good neurosurgeon to have watching out for you.

    A Progress Report

I had back surgery about 24 years ago and despite all the PT I went through I never recovered the flexibility in my lower back that I used to have. It did relieve the pain for about 15 years. I was warned that I would probably be needing more back surgery after 10 years but I have declined that...

STG closes Mac Baren and Sutliff

I have a small footlocker and a drawer in a filing cabinet. The blends I am actively smoking are kept in a desk drawer where I can easily reach them.

STG closes Mac Baren and Sutliff

Damn! I looked through my small (approx. 12 lbs) cellar to see if I have any Sutliff or MacBaren blends I need to stock-up on. Right now I have 1 tin of Phantom Privateer (and I just opened it on Halloween) 1 tin of Hill of Slane 1 tin of State of Virginia 1 tin of Molto Dolce 1 tin of Black...

    Lessons Learned From Aromatics!

Aromatics get vilified by a lot of the non-aromatic snobs on forums. And, to be honest, there are some aromatic blends that I will agree are not good smokes. The other side of that coin is that there are a lot of aromatic pipe tobacco blends out there and not all of them are wet, goopy and...

    Nording Guinness World Record Pipe

Somewhere in the cobwebs of my computer is an email from Savinelli telling me the Giubileo D'Oro line was their very top line pipe at one time. If I remember correctly they said the used either 1 in 10,000 pieces of briar or 1 in 1,000. Being curious, I check the Savinelli website and it looks...

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

I am a US pipe smoker and I definitely appreciate HU aromatic blends. I wish the first drop would have included more aromatics. I just see The Untouchables - my favorite HU blend. I have nine tins in my cellar at the moment so I'm not buying any more at the moment. I'm hoping that eventually...

    Nording Guinness World Record Pipe

My oldest son is a Nording fan and is constantly telling me how great his pipes smoke. As for the blind squirrel finding a nut, mine was find a Savinelli Giubileo D'Oro at an antique street fair for $3.

Occult Detectives Stories from the Pulps!

I've read quite a few of the old detective books. I liked Philip Marlow, Sam Spade, Ellery Queen, Nero Wolf and the Maigret books written by Georges Simenon. I also have read a lot of the Hercule Poirot books. The late wife and I used to like to listen to the old radio detective shows (and...

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

You're assuming the ship by sea. If they do, the tobacco would probably be in a sealed, airtight container placed inside a shipping container. I don't think the time in a sealed shipping container would dry it out too much. It is also possible to ship using air cargo.

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

The answer to your conundrum is to just order the HU tobacco blends you want to be "completely" German from Estervals and pay the shipping. Then you can do a bowl to bowl comparison to find out it is still the same tobacco.

HU Tobacco Coming to the States

I agree. I don't know why a lot of people believe a blend is going to be exactly the same every time the purchase it. In my opinion, tobacco is a consumable crop. It gets harvested, processed, sold and then smoked. Once that crop of tobacco is gone, it is gone. Being a plant there is no...

    HU Tobacco In The US?

The problem may be that Kohlhase has left Kopp and all the pipe tobacco manufacturing is now done by Kopp. That being said, I believe some of the blends are produced by DTM but it is Kopp who is handling international distribution of HU blends. That should muddy up things a little more.

    Large European Metal Tins Re-sealability?

+1 what Chris said. I haven't had a problem with the 100g paint can tins keeping the tobacco fresh if I close it properly after opening. I bought a 100g tin of DTM Christmas last year and smoked about half of it. I popped it open the other day and it was still moist enough that I let it dry...
